I use AC3Filter to output 5.1 from almost any source except mono. For mono I set it to 2.1 Nothing else can do it as well including ffdshow. I've tried the latest releases but keep going back to v1.02test8 as the newer builds have trouble converting alot of 2 channel stereo into 5.1.
About ffdshow tryouts Last good version is Milan Cutka's last daily build 29-11-2005 clsid is learning, but not there yet. Other tryout authors are a joke!
