The (only) **Official** DVDShrink Site IS NO MORE!

This is what you can read at the Official DVD Shrink Site. Like DVD Decrypter it appears this site is down forever.

Long live DVD Shrink...

DVDShrink was dead long time before the Site goes Down:-)
The Programmers are working now for Nero...
Recode 2 has the same or better Quality as Shrink:-)

Despite the site is down, I still use DVDShrink and will continue using it while I don't lose my CDs. This is not the problem.

The point is that watching what happened to programs like DVDShrink or DVD Decrypter I feel Free Software is losing a battle. A battle within a war against powerful groups.

Greetings from Sudacaland.

While it's true that the programmer has coded for Nero, I think we'll have to wait for a bit to see what happens. It looks to me as if the site has been hacked.

Actually with Nero Recode you can do something we use to do with Decrypter and then with Shrink. With Decrypter we used to extract the main movie only and IF total movie size was more than 4.36 Gbytes then the saved files opened with Shrink so they could be compressed until a logical size. Now with Recode you have the direct option to import the main movie file only and if needs to be shrinked the program does it automatically. So...what to say? Free software are good but any patent violation can put you in prison. I wish i could do help with friends to develop the same program for free (Underground of course :))) ) Well...one day i will develop it with C++. I have to finish my books and after that i will try to do it under UNIX environment.

No need for that. Just search for CloneDVD and AnyDVD (or DVD Region+CSS Free) on this site. No need for over 12 Gigs of free hard disk space (won't exactly matter for people with fairly sizable hard disks though). CloneDVD+AnyDVD/DVD Region+CSS Free will do the re-encode without copying the original (but decrypted) files to hardisk and even burn the dvd disc for you all in a few easy steps.

Last time I checked the "Official" DVD Shrink was at http://www.dvdshrink.info/

Why just dont buy Dual Layer Burner and actually DVD isnt so expensive if it is on nearer side of the shelf when you goto shoplif... khm shopping.
RE : by ChelOis on 2005-08-19 07:21:51
Perhaps, but I will not buy another one while my old single-layer drive works. The drives aren't so expensive but the media still isn't so cheap.

Moreover, the quality loss shrinking an original DVD-9 to DVD-5 is in general nearly negligible for me.
