yep, CCCP is good enough for playback. As for encoding, I'd rather install the codecs I need manually.. hehehe :p

Installing codecs and codec packs results to conflicts(with already installed codecs) and slows down your system.
Get the open source Mplayer+Mpui at http://mpui.sourceforge.net/ which is capable of playing ANY video.
It can even play quicktime and realone videos without the respective codecs!And no installation!
Alternatively VLC which is almost as capable as Mplayer(no realone without the codec) and has better support with ogm files with embedded subtitles.
