Microsoft did not release DirectX 10 for Windows XP because of the complexies involved. Here you have the first steps towards what Microsoft cannot do. You do not need Vista anymore to run DirectX 10 software.

What exactly is this? Any negative effects?
RE:DirectX 10 Compatibility Libraries Pre-Alpha by RamGuy on 2007-04-26 04:51:21
I would love to see this thing work..
But if I install these files, might it mess up my DX9 etc.?
RE:DirectX 10 Compatibility Libraries Pre-Alpha by Hosser_co_uk on 2007-04-26 04:53:16
Pretty pointless to install right now - as there are no DX10/Shader Model 4.0 effects in any currently available games.
However it's perfectly safe to try out. Not that you can really try it out, if you see what I mean.

RE:DirectX 10 Compatibility Libraries Pre-Alpha by bsacheli on 2007-04-26 06:42:35
This is pointless
theres no games that use DX10
and only one Vcard that will use it but the driver its out for that yet so you would be wasting your time DL this

As Hosser_co_uk said there are no games out yet which utilise DX10, BUT, you can still test it out with the DX10 SDK which include samples that users can test out with their DX10 compatible gfx cards.

... if you have one. If not, then DON'T INSTALL!
The purpose of this is pointless on a warez site but it might, and I stress MIGHT, attract attention of experienced testers and people that want to support the project.
What it is?... It's a non-MS implementation of DirectX 10 standards... something like Wine on Linux but for Windows XP.
A Pre-Alpha stage is just and idea of the idea of DirectX 10 libraries... an Alpha would be the main idea and from then on the libs will grow and hopefully get mature enough to use.

I did try unzipped DirectX 9.0c April 2007 then copy this DirectX 10 Compatibility Libraries Pre-Alpha files and install it.
Can install it without any problem...
And also copy DirectX 10 Compatibility Libraries Pre-Alpha files to C:\windows\system32
Nothing happen, everything look ok.
I only use GeForce 7600GT, can play Test Drive Unlimited, no problem....

From what i've heard, Dx10 isnt supposed to come out for anything BUT Vista. And yes you could still use it, even though there isnt any games out right now to run it on. It is supposed to speed up your process on games a tiny bit, with regular Dx9 outfits. If you dont have a Geforce 8800, dont bother with this. 4-26-07

RE:DirectX 10 Compatibility Libraries Pre-Alpha by allanvz on 2007-04-26 22:09:43
With this you can run DX 10 applications in win XP with DX 10 graphics card and DX 9 Graphics card (emulate of curse)
No... unfortunately... because of legal issues and because MS wants this to be a Vista only feature.
But in time Vistas' security will be broken and we'll all gonna enjoy it... vLited or not!

The Best way to get DX10 on Your PC is to install Windows Vista. I've installed Home Premium resenly, it's quaiet enough to stay awaiting for HALO2. Also i using Hackintosh, and i'm happy! For the rest, wish all of You GOOD LUCK! But still, even Vista is buggy for now, first build of it is better than XP first build was...
Don't pay attantion at my grammar, i'm Russian and studing English myself.

Only DX10 capable graphics card users can use it for good. But DX10 PC Games aren't works with Win XP. So upgrade or install Win Vista for DX10 games. Thank you!
