It is an advanced suite of multimedia application programming interfaces (APIs) built into Microsoft Windows; operating systems. DirectX provides a standard development platform for Windows-based PCs by enabling software developers to access specialized hardware features without having to write hardware-specific code. This technology was first introduced in 1995 and is a recognized standard for multimedia application development on the Windows platform.
Microsoft® DirectX® is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based computers an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements, such as full-color graphics, video, 3-D animation, and surround sound. Primary areas of concentration for this release have been with the Library for Direct3D extensions (D3DX), Graphics Samples, Tools and documentation. The Microsoft DirectX software development kit (SDK) is your backstage pass to multimedia applications that sizzle. DirectX is a set of low-level application programming interfaces (APIs) for creating games and other high-performance multimedia applications. It includes support for high-performance 2-D and 3-D graphics, sound, and input.
Microsoft DirectX Software Development Kit (SDK) includes the final release of the Microsoft Cross-Platform Audio Creation Tool, updates to samples, tools, documentation, and D3DX9. In addition, this SDK includes several pre-release components: Direct3D 10 (including corresponding tools, samples, and documentation, and DXUT).

SDKS
You only need this if you are a game programmer.. It isn't useful for the average user... Will just fill your hard disk's space...

You don't need it even if you "reinstall your OS often" - in that case you again need only the "end user runtime" which weights some 40MB. Like *teodz1984* said: the SDK version is used only by programmers-developers, since it contains the parts of the source code needed for building the actual elements of the 3d applications.

Yes I couldn't agree more, thats why I was refering to the quote refering to End User Runtime. DOH!
All you need to Reinstall XP often is: 1. Magic Jelly Beans Key Changer + The XP Student Key. 2. AutoPatcherXP. 2. A DirextX 9c EndUser Runtime.
My Feb07 dxwebsetup updated Dec06 directx_dec2006_redist in 5 seconds on a 64/64K connection! Beats downloading the Full Feb07 runtime again!

Ok guys this is good for the ppls who got the latest config. If you got old config machine which vga does not support 3d it will give an error win32k.sys. so for that reason dont install this and u better stay in the older version which will help u much.
