A file manager is, at its simplest, a utility program which presents lists of files and allows the user to perform actions of some kind on those files. File managers are useful for moving files between folders, making backup copies of files, viewing pictures and playing sounds, running other utility programs on lists of files, deleting unwanted files and many other "housekeeping" tasks.
Directory Opus goes beyond the simple file manager metaphor, and offers you a complete replacement for Windows Explorer and many other utility programs for handling FTP, ZIP, viewing files and images, running slideshows and more. It provides you with all this within a user-friendly and fully-configurable environment within which you can access and manage your important data with a minimum of effort. Harness the power of your computer like never before!

  • Designed for Windows: Directory Opus 8 has been designed and written from the ground up especially for Windows. Full support for all Windows Operating Systems from Windows 95, 98, ME to 2000, XP and 2003.
  • Familiar Interface: Unlike many other file managers, Directory Opus defaults to an Explorer-compatible user interface. You can immediately begin using Directory Opus, with no learning curve, because it will feel extremely familiar and comfortable to you. But, you will find that you can easily configure the interface to fully personalize your system including the use of dual file displays or multiple displays for special folders.
  • Fully Configurable Menus, Toolbars and Hotkeys: Directory Opus supports unlimited menus and toolbars. Toolbars can be attached to any side of a Lister display or can be independent free-floating windows. Directory Opus supports user-configurable hotkeys, both for use within Opus, and globally throughout the system. The Windows key is also fully supported!
  • Built-in ZIP and FTP Support: Throw away your external ZIP and FTP programs - Directory Opus lets you access ZIP files and FTP sites as easily as local folders! You can copy files from anywhere and to anywhere - even from an FTP site straight into a ZIP file!
  • True Multitasking: The object-orientated multi-threaded design gives you unheralded power to perform multiple operations at the same time. Why should you have to wait for your computer to finish? Now you can begin one task and immediately move on the the next. Zip one folder whilst unzipping into another, at the same time as you are downloading files from a remote FTP site and copying yet more files between your local folders, independently and reliably.
  • Support for Common Image and Sound Files: Directory Opus supports most common image and sound file formats. It provides a quick yet powerful image viewer which lets you view your pictures without having to load a large paint program! It also provides a Thumbnails-style view of your folders, allowing you preview a large number of images to quickly locate the one you are looking for.
  • Built-in Viewer Pane: Quickly view pictures, text files and other types of files in the Opus Viewer pane directly in the Lister window. Opus supports a viewer plug-in system so you can add new drivers for the specific file formats you wish to view as they become available. Directory Opus comes with plug-ins for many popular image and document file formats. Third party libraries can extend the viewing capabilities to include Word and Excel documents, Acrobat files and many other types of files. A free SDK is available for developers to write their own viewer plug-ins.
  • Enhanced Support for Digital Images: More than any other file manager, Directory Opus give you full access to the hidden details of the EXIF format for images from digital cameras. You can now sort images by any field and view all the information about your photos from shooting time, shutter speed, aperture, subject distance, metering type and more...
  • Enhanced Finding and Searching: Directory Opus lets you quickly locate the files you need, with an extremely powerful search system. Does Explorer let you search for Led Zeppelin MP3 files recorded at a bit rate of 160 sometime between last Thursday and today? Opus does!
  • Powerful Internal Command Set: With Directory Opus you are not just limited to functions given to you by the programmer. Directory Opus's functions are built upon the most powerful file management command language available in any file manager. You can harness this easily to create your own functions commands to perform the actions that YOU want to do.
Changes and bug fixes for 8.2.2.1 (5 May 2006):
- Added full support for UTF-8, UTF-16LE and UTF-16BE encoded tags in MP3 files.
- Fixed problem with Genre tag in ID3v2-tagged MP3 files (now supports (X) format where X references a genre from the ID3v1 spec).
- Fixed problem with mouse wheel not being passed through to correct file display when multiple tabs were open.
- Changing the language now updates several default context menu items that were not being updated correctly.
- Fixed a problem that occurred when renaming using file information with multiple files in flatview with the same filename.
- File information rename extended with the addition of the {parent} code to reference the name of the parent folder. {parent} (or {parent1} returns the name of the parent folder, {parent2} returns the parent's parent, {parent3} returns the parent's parent's parent, etc.
- Fixed a problem when deleting non-empty folders from some NAS devices (the folder would disappear from the list but would not actually be deleted).
- FTP: Fixed issue where a failed Passive (PASV) connection would retry using Active connection (PORT) but not correctly read the initial folder.

The patch works! Try the following:

1. Save your settings of Directory Opus first: Settings>Import and Export...
2. Clean uninstall any previous version of Directory Opus, remove everything.
3. Delete the registry key: HKEY_Current_User|Software|Oxygen|*.*
4. Install Directory Opus 8.2.2.1. Do not run the program.
5. Run the patch outside Directory Opus install folder. Direct the patch to dopus.exe.
6. Reboot.
7. Run Directory Opus and import your previous settings.

I too have not been able to install and register Directory Opus as after applying the patch, the program will not run. And yes..I did make sure to delete the patch from the install directory after running the patch. The only one I have found that works for me is a SND patch for version 8202unicode. This patch clears the reg information and allows you to use a pirated licence. It works just fine. I have not been able to make any of the patches from p-Hell work after numerous installs and uninstalls. The latest patch I've seen from SND is for 8210 Unicode but I havent tried it yet but it should work. Anyways..I love the program and the add-ons with 8221 I really dont have need for anyways...so until a fix is available the works for me I'll just continue to use 8202...or 8210 with the SND patch.  Good luck...tatianna :)

Formerly I used v. 8210 with Snd patch + Registration code + program certificate. I encountered the same problem when upgrading to v. 8220 using the p-Hell patch. When Dopus is started, it complains that the program certificate is out-dated and refuses to run.

This is because the p-Hell patch does not need the registration code + program certificate (Help>License Manager is disabled). However, the old registration code + program certificate still exists in the registry after complete uninstall. After uninstalling previous versions using the Snd patch, run regedit, search and delete all entries related to "Directory Opus", reboot and then install v. 8220 or v. 8221 using the p-Hell patch. It will then run OK.

Oh..one other issue. When I installed 8220 and 8221, I was unable to create a "new folder" with Opus. Nothing would show up in the directory list. After I uninstalled and went back to 8202 or 8210 using the SND patch, that function works just fine. This may be a problem just in my case.

Where is the SND patch pal?

Aureus!! Thanks much hon. You were absolutely right. I removed all registry entries relating to Directory Opus after uninstalling (used JV16PwrTools...it found a lot of entries that Microsofts regedit did not find). Installed 8221 and it works great. I do have a question though. In the downloaded patch file from Ph_hell, there is also an included license file. Obviously it cant be used because as you said, the license manager is disabled by Ph_Hell's patch. It did say this however in the file...
"With all due respects to PH, their release of this very good program was just
a patch. We truly invite anyone to patch the program, and use it. It wont
last long! Or, register it 100% and have it run perfectly.

NLRULEZ is here again to save the day ;)"
hmmmm...well...its running just fine right now for me...maybe time will tell...thanks again for your help..I really appreciate..."hugs" tatianna  :)
