ESET Smart Security is a fully integrated security solution and includes antivirus, anti-spyware, a personal firewall and antispam. While some competitive solutions purport to have similar functionality, ESET has developed a unique approach that provides true and full integration of point security solutions. The key advantage of this approach is that individual protection modules are able to communicate together seamlessly, to create unparalleled synergy to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of protection. Moreover, the integrated architecture guarantees optimal utilization of system resources, so ESET Smart Security continues ESET’s well know reputation for providing rock solid security in a small footprint that will not slow down an individual’s computer.

ESET is trying it's best to keep up with Kaspersky, but they always fail, because Kaspersky has reckon with this and keep the improving it software - therefore leaving ESET noding/shaking it's head trying to keep up. You better watch out. Kaspersky is in motion and will hit them with a new software improvement.

Dominator, you need to quit sniffing your own jockstrap, everyone with even half a brain knows that Nod32 is rated higher by every single legit testing service, Kaspersky isnt even in the same class.... even the USA Internal Revenue Service uses NOD32 to protect the tax records......Get real man......
DOMINATOR, just because you dont do the research to find out which is the best AV client, doesnt mean its not out there
SAN DIEGO – June 7, 2007 – ESET, the leader in proactive threat protection, today announced that its NOD32 Antivirus software was the only antivirus solution awarded the Advanced+ Certification in the May 2007 Anti-Virus Comparative No. 14 test, conducted by testing organization AV-Comparatives. The Advanced+ Certification is granted to antivirus products that demonstrate leading proactive detection capabilities while delivering minimal false positives.
ESET’s NOD32 Antivirus achieved this distinguished certification for the second year in a row, due to its market-leading proactive detection. In a field of 15 competing products, NOD32 Antivirus was able to identify a very large percentage of new threats, while producing a limited number of false positives, all at a high level of speed performance– the winning ratio for all antivirus products. Of the three leaders in the “Proactive detection of new backdoors, Trojans and other malware” category, NOD32 had by far the fewest false positives, and took third place to products with high false positives.
“A single test is not an indicator of quality in an antivirus product. To effectively evaluate security software, one needs to look at software track records,” said Randy Abrams, director of technical education, at ESET LLC. “For the second year in a row, the AV-Comparatives test demonstrates that NOD32 Antivirus is the only product that has been able to consistently achieve both high proactive detection scores while maintaining low false positive rates.”
ESET NOD32 Antivirus version 2.7 utilizes ThreatSense™ technology, a sophisticated detection system based on advanced heuristics, to proactively identify previously-unknown viruses, Trojans, spyware, rootkits and phishing attacks in real-time. ThreatSense is built into NOD32’s unified scanning engine to provide comprehensive protection so users do not need to rely on additional point solutions for spyware and adware protection.
The AV-Comparatives is an independent testing organization based in Austria. The cited tests are performed by Andreas Clementi, a well known reviewer, and are designed to analyze proactive detection capabilities and evaluate which antivirus products can detect new forms of malware proactively, without the need for signature updates. The complete report can be found at http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/ergebnisse/report14.pdf.
While Kaspersky has improved recently in testing their track record inhandling new emerging unknown threats is poor at best andsince Kaspersky has alwys left a larger footprint than Nod32 thats inexcusable....
MOST AV PRODUCTS CAN HANDLE KNOWN VIRII, ITS NOD32's EXCELLENCE IN HANDLING THE UNKNOWN OVER MANY YEARS THAT SETS IT APART
as I said get a Clue.....there's a reason the IRS nod32 and not Kaspersky and its certainly not the price its the quality

Goodbye nodCRAP; Hello Kaspersky!!!
Published July 12th, 2007 in Corporate Talk
"Eset's nodCRAP has long been our favorite anti-virus program at NeoSmart Technologies.
In recent years (mainly from last year though), nodCRAP has fallen WAY BEHIND in the detection rankings, but for the most part had remained a decent choice. Virus.gr has the latest testing results as summed up in this post at CyberNet News. In the latest round of tests (and the one before that, and the one before that) Kaspersky is yet again at the top, with a 99.23% detection rate for the newly-released version 7 and a 99.13% for version 6...
RE:ESET Smart Security v3.0.563 by uagadugu on 2007-12-02 09:15:38
..But all changed with the release of Kaspersky 7. In a test run, we found 3 different trojans on our machines (for a total of 6 infected files) that nodCRAP hadn't detected (even with heuristics enabled and set to the highest level) which Kaspersky picked up immediately..
RE:ESET Smart Security v3.0.563 by uagadugu on 2007-12-02 09:15:55
..The real kicker wasn't the fact that nodCRAP missed a trojan, it was the fact that 2 of these trojans have been listed in the Kaspersky virus signature database since mid-2006, and that when reporting such missed trojans the nodCRAP team replies in a mostly arrogant manner.
Looking at this thread where a nodCRAP user reported to their tech support that several common trojans ((One of which was found in our test run here at NeoSmart Technologies)) weren't picked up by nodCRAP but were by Kasperksy, the replies by nodCRAP moderators are quite shocking. They start off by claiming that the original poster's title is misleading purposely accusatory (which it isn't, objectively speaking) and this later escalates (when a new poster claims to have a list of 21 trojans nodCRAP failed to detect) into accusations of virus-harvesting and purposely looking for nodCRAP's weaknesses..
RE:ESET Smart Security v3.0.563 by uagadugu on 2007-12-02 09:16:16
..What should have been a simple "thank you for your observations and our apologies for the inconvenience" became a highly-ridiculous "nodCRAP can do no wrong" thread. We've been recommending nodCRAP since the start, but to us it is clear that this is where we part paths. If a company makes a mistake an oversight of a single trojan, that we can live with. But when moderators on their forum insist on turning it into a personal attack against anyone that has any issues with nodCRAP, it's sign that something very wrong is underfoot.
So, goodbye nodCRAP, you've served us average throughout the years (as previous threads and articles will testify). But it's time for a new AV that continues to improve and without taking offense to simple mistakes. Unfortunately, pride and failure often to lead to one and the same thing - and if there's a better alternative, we'd be fools not to take it."

Why Kaspersky IS Better Than nodCRAP - Here’s another reason!
By: Alexander Dimitru, Security Expert
"You can’t always tell which is the best anti-virus for your machine, as all the vendors will claim they deliver top-notch solutions, that they are leaders on the market and all that. Also, you often get facts stating that in some test a certain anti-virus ranked first, but they rarely state what competition they had. In any case, in view of recent events, Kaspersky beats the crap out of nodCRAP; and I will give you some facts and explain why it is so.
A computer with nodCRAP and Windows XP SP2 had been infected by several Trojans. The AV found two of them and no matter how many times you would delete them, they would still pop up after rebooting. nodCRAP could not disinfect the files, it just deleted them. That was pretty nasty. Couldn’t get rid of the threats! Cmd didn’t help much either – I guess they were stuck in the Recycler or something. Now, what I advised the owner of the affected machine was to run other AV solutions… however, none of the free ones seemed to do better than nodCRAP, fact which was to be expected. Then she asked me what else could she buy, so I advised her to get Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0. The minute it had been installed it asked for an update and a full system scan. It took Kaspersky about 2 hours to scan a 70% full 160GB hard drive, but it found 8 threats and eliminated them all. I then rebooted the machine and scanned the folders where the viruses had been discovered – now it was all clean. So, based on this experience, I would definitely go with Kaspersky, rather than nodCRAP.
To us users, it’s these things that count. It doesn’t matter what tests and magazines say – when you’re facing a threat and your AV doesn’t help you enough, then you deem it useless. Users don't care what other threats it may destroy – they want to get rid of the ones THEY'RE facing! Furthermore, after this happening, I definitely became a Kaspersky fan. I, for one, don’t care how much resource it will eat up – at least I will stay protected. What’s the use of having security software that will not "stress" your machine, if it’s also ineffective against viruses?"

KASPERSKY ANTI-VIRUS 7.0's PROACTIVE PROTECTION ACHIEVES THE HIGHEST CERTIFICATION IN THE LATEST AV-COMPARATIVES TESTS
Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces that Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 has demonstrated the highest level of reliability and effectiveness of its proactive protection system in a series of tests conducted by AV-Comparatives.org, a respected Austrian antivirus lab. Based on the results, Kaspersky Anti-Virus was awarded the highest certification: Advanced+.
“New malicious programs and viruses appear every day and it is evident that antivirus database updates, even hourly, are not enough to provide users with reliable protection from possible Internet threats. There is always a time “gap” between the appearance of a new threat and the release of an update. So to provide effective antivirus protection it is important to effectively detect new threats,” says the head of the AV-Comparatives lab Andreas Clementy.
AV-Comparatives conducted a series of tests in order to compare the effectiveness of various antivirus solutions' on-demand detection of malicious programs (by the program scanner). This method makes it possible to estimate the effectiveness of the heuristic analyzer, one of the components of the proactive protection system. The testing included 17 antivirus products for home users with antivirus databases that were dated August 5, 2007. The sample of malicious programs used in the tests appeared after this date.
Based on the results, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 was awarded the highest certification—Advanced+, which confirms the program has the highest level of detection of new malicious programs with minimal false positives using the antivirus program's heuristic analyzer. It should be noted that only 1 other products tested was awarded this certification.
“Kaspersky Lab developed and introduced a new heuristic analyzer in it's version 7.0 home user products in the summer of this year. In June 2007 this new module first participated in AV-Comparatives' testing and immediately received the Advanced+ certificate,” says Deputy Director of the Innovation Technologies Nikolay Grebennikov. “This is a long-awaited and very significant assessment of Kaspersky Lab’s work.”
The heuristic analyzer is only one of the components of the proactive protection module included in Kaspersky Lab products. Contrary to most competitors’ products, Kaspersky Lab products provide additional protection: a behavior blocker, which blocks the activity of malicious programs based on their behavior. The effectiveness of this module was also tested by AV-Comparatives in June 2007, with the test developers commenting: “The results of the tests performed with the randomly chosen malicious programs have confirmed the highest protection level and the effectiveness of the behavior blocker, which is awarded the Proactive Protection Award of the AV-Comparatives test laboratory.”
