The browser wars are heating up, as the first beta of Firefox 2.0 is due on Tuesday July 11th, and Internet Explorer version 7.0 is now on it's third beta release. Firefox fans, and browser junkies have an opportunity to get a jump on Tuesday's beta, as a public "release candidate" has been posted on the Mozilla FTP site. This nightly build is finally feature complete, although it's still not completely ready for mass consumption.
Reports from early testers compliment two of the significant new features: an integrated spell checker, and an anti-phishing tool. The spell-checker promises to make blog and forum postings more lucid. The phishing filter (an integrated component of IE 7.0 as well) works with locally stored lists of bad sites, along with Google's site listing, and possibly others down the road.
The rest of the interface stays mostly the same, unlike the more radical changes in IE 7.0. Firefox 2.0 does include a horizontal scrolling capability for tabs, and an ability to close a tab directly from within the tab itself. The Options dialog has been reworked to include a horizontal, tabbed based interface, and numerous changes have been made under the hood.

Thanks for this. I'll try it out. Greatly appreciated.
*To all the 12 year old IDIOTS visiting 9down daily to get COOL apps and stuff...please download and shut up. We don't need your childish comments, arguments, etc etc. Thanks for keeping your mouths shut.
And by the way...FireFox IS the best browser. Agree or not...we all know it. :)

I'll be waiting for the *final* release of this. I've seen so many nightly builds of Firefox, but never installed them. I guess I'm the type of person that'll wait for a week after the release date to see the user's comments, bug reports, browser behavior on their operating system...etc, etc...before I'll install it.
I'm on the leading edge of technology, but try to stay away from the bleeding edge of technology, so I'll wait for a week and see how 2.0 turns out.
And, YES, I've used Firefox since version 0.8

Re: Firefox 2.0 Beta by ahmedmagdy on 2006-07-11 18:22:55
what's new !!!
Re: Firefox 2.0 Beta by someguy on 2006-07-11 19:07:26
dont bother downloading it!!
it can cause problems with your other firefox browser.
the only new thing is the internet security and warning and potecting you against scam websites. ( witch are very helpful of course ).
I would definately back up the old profile. I did have a problem in the past, where it corrupted my profile when I installed a beta version. So, now I always back up the profile first.
Don't listen to him he lies. works great heck i am using it right now. Wow it has spell check built in it. I recommend it.

Does the Fx 2 Beta work with all the existing extensions? Because last time i tried Fx 2.0, most of the extension got disabled and wouldnt work properly at all after Nightly Testing tools/Mr.Tech.
I liked the speed of Fx 2 but always had to del and move back to 1.5.0.5 because the extensions wouldnt work. Now i use Opera but i would like to have up-to-date softwares :p
Re: Firefox 2.0 Beta by ElectriX on 2006-07-12 02:21:33
I prefer Opera, but I agree that FF is a great piece of software. Yes, I have my own webpages, so I have to own this new version of FF to test compability of it. I think trhat FF is used by many users, bcs they started theit internet lifes on it, and it's difficult to change a habit, especially if that two browsers are that different. Firefox is so good 4 user, who want only a browser, or a little extensions, and Opera is 4 more advanced users. I didn't want to say that I'm an advanced user, but I simply love it. Poeples may argue forever, but 4 me Opera is the BEST. And 9down.com rulezz! THX
Re: Firefox 2.0 Beta by oriceon on 2006-07-12 04:24:49
eh.. SOMEONE MUST test it.. SOMEONE MUST TEST AND REPORT BUG TO MOZILLA .. if we want a good browser....
So if you are a fan of Mozilla Firefox, just .. INSTALL IT !
It is good and i have no problem.
