There is NO adware or spyware or any other kind of problems with this patch. It's terrific! I've used the A-Patch for every beta version of MSN Messenger since the first public release...and all the way through to this final release v7.0.0777 with NOT ONE single problem. It gives you total control to decide what features you want and don't want. Enjoy it!

Hello people,

As the [modest] developer of A-Patch I'd like to inform everyone that there is no such adware, spyware or any virii of any kind associated with this patch.

As for PowerTCP, I use a dll called DartZip to compress resources before I compile them.

Thanks to everyone for defending me and A-Patch. And for those slandering my work then I'm not quite sure what to say to you, your situation is rather sad.

My reputation is well known on the Mess.be Forums (where I first started) and also the MsgPlus! Forums, so give those forums a visit if you want to ask people about me.

Thank You.

RE : by xpmule on 2005-04-09 05:20:48
hey

I feel bad for making my earlier post now..

9down should have posted and distributed this
information that you posted along with the program.

When you spread a random unknown program
around the net with out any documentation
except for a 9down.jpg in the archive what are people
to think ?

And as a Programmer with .Net my self
i understand that there may be different reasons
for using that Dart Lib, but look at it from my point
of view, wouldnt you be suspicious as well ?
After researching this PowerTCP & Dart stuff ?

Serious a LIB that provides extensive net access ?
If you only needed a compression library ?
Couldnt you have used something FREE and SMALLER ?

Anyways whatever i dun really care bout all this
and i dont even use messenger lol
Have fun people...

Whatever the case may be, there now are KNOWN problems with your patch. Some having problems and some not tell me it's more of a compatibility problem. Could have issues that involve spyware but it seems more like those that are having trouble are having it in the compatibility dept.
Sorry, dude. No one's perfect. Don't claim to be.
And "modest"? How could you possibly consider yourself "modest" when you spent most of your comment space bragging on yourself?

Well, considering all the bad press this A-Patch has been getting I won't be jumping in and using it.
IT DOES LOOK A BIT STRANGE WHEN YOU OPEN IT UP AND LOOK INSDE TO SEE WHAT MAKES IT TICK.I would say that there are a few added extras in there,,considdering that all it is meant to do is shut a few things down.
Have you ever heard the saying "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread"? Well I would say that saying applys to this patch in this situation.Just wait a while.
Any way you can do most of the things this patch does in the options.

Good job, I like this little tool to eliminate some unnecessary text or buttons from the messanger, especially the ads. Thanks for the good works.

Well, this must be the most commented on piece of software since my visits here started!

It seems to me there are a possibility of three options here:
1) It's a harmless bit of software that lots of people will get some joy out of or marvel at and there are 1 or 2 individuals out there that wish they had come up with it first.
2) It's a harmless bit of software that lots of people will get some joy out of or marvel at and there are 1 or 2 individuals out there that have issues with the author.
3) It's a real rouge of a program that only a select few can see into and everyone who uses it is contributing to some major crime or catastrophe.

Sadly I do not have the knowledge or abilities to comment on the options with any authority. What I can say though is that evolution is constant and you never realy know what you are opening your door to every time you click that little "instal" button. Even those bits of software the come with the authority of "Our Bill". Whats to say that one day MS won't capitalize (??) on their position and hold the world to ransome.
It is right that if someone has genuine concerns that they express them. What helps us, out here, make the decission on how we act is dependent on how well the arguments are put. No amount of swearing or badmouthing will sway an intelligent person.
Good Patch! by fckdown on 2005-04-09 19:40:42
This is a very good work. Thanks for the patch-maker.I advice you bunch of people to just select what you need to remove and what you dont need and apply patch. Its worthless to discuss on why the patchmaker included too many unnecessary codes.Seeing it as a complex piece of coding through a Hex-Editor doesnt make any sense if you dont know what those codes are actually for.Again i say, just select what you want and apply.I found no spy-thing with the patch.
Only my 2 cents.
Great Patch! by alexp2_ad on 2005-04-09 20:41:59
I have used this patch on two builds of messenger now and it has worked sucessfully and done everything very well, as well as being released long before other patches.

I also run PestPatrol (a commercial spyware and adware finder) along with a variety of other similair programs, none of which has picked up on any spyware in this program, I think anything people are getting must have come from elsewhere...
DEEPLY TESTED: THERE IS [NO MALWARE] HERE!!! by venimus on 2005-04-10 23:49:31
I checked the software with : MSAntispyware Beta, Adaware (def R37), McAffee VirusScan 8.0
All these detect and remove know and uknown malware.
All of the reference databases are uptodate.

THERE ARE NOT ANY SPYWARE, VIRUSES, TROJANS & ETC.!

The guy said that used a 3d party library: DartZip to compress - it includes a TCP library (but no unallowed connections were detected while running a-patch), im pretty sure the library is safe.

You can use winrar to open the executable and will find ResourceHacker.exe included which is ~860k. This programme is wellknown and SAFE. It is used for editing resources of executables/dlls/.res. There are 2 resource files included aswell. These are obviously used to patch MSNM. That explains the size of the a-patch.exe

SO IF S.O. CLAIMS ABOUT A MALWARE CONTENT, FIRST CHECK IT AND PROVE IT!
Re: Full Patch For MSN Messenger 7.0 Final Build 0777 by Marlboro23 on 2005-04-11 07:02:57
Okay people, i checked the code and it does indeed looks "fishy" or suspicious. As somebody stated before there's too much encryption, code and suspicious algorythms. The fact that no antivirus/spyware/firewall jump on it doesnt mean anything really. i'm not saying that it's spyware or malicious,it just looks suspicious to my eyes,
By the way i just checked Mess.be and i noticed an "official" patch, i downloaded it and noticed the filesize is smaller than this one *cough*
THERE IS NO SPYWARE OR ADWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by msn_crazy_100 on 2005-04-12 00:02:41
IF YOU THINK THERE IS SPYWARE IN THIS PATCH BECAUSE YOU SCANNED YOUR COMPUTER THEN PROOF IT BY DOING THIS
1. Erase everything from your computer
2. Just install a-patch and windows
3. Scan the computer
4. YOU WILL FIND NO SPYWARE OR ADWARE!

I dont know where you got the adware/spyware from but it is not the a-patch
