Following the recent news of the compagny behind Gator suing everyone that called their product spyware(latest PC Pitstop), they have decided to change the name of Gator entirely. The name is now Claria, so be on the lookout for this piece of nasty software.
This is probably a step to mask the software further as Gator was becoming a rather well known advertisement product, and a increasing amount of people were taking steps against it.
You'll find a nice overview of gator history and the article on Cnet
Maybe you find it interesting what kind if informations Gator aka Clara is collecting, so read more.
I found the following informations in their privacy policy, which is not easy to find on their website:
Some of the Web pages viewed
The amount of time spent at some Web sites
Response to GAIN Ads
Standard web log information (excluding IP Addresses) and system settings
What software is on the personal computer
First name, country, city, and five digit ZIP code
Non-personally identifiable information on Web pages and forms
