K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools. Codec is short for Compressor-Decompressor. Codecs are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video. It is designed as a user-friendly soluction for playing all your video files. You should be able to play all the popular movie formats and even some rare formats. K-Lite Mega Codec Pack combines the contents of three codec packs: K-Lite Codec Pack Full, QuickTime Alternative, and Real Alternative.

There's no need to be scared of this.... it has absolutely nothing to do with Kazaa. It's just a complete set of codecs and filters used to playback (and encode, if you wish) the various types of movie and audio files that you might download from any source... It doesn't require Kazaa, doesn't contain any virus or spyware, and was meant for those who originally downloaded multiple format video files (from P2P apps like Kazaa, Gnutella, EMule, Bittorrent, Limewire, etc....) and couldn't play them back on their computers, because they didn't have the necessary codecs to do so.
Also, I'm pretty sure that this will be out in the Final Version in a couple of days. I'm sure the changes have been implemented, and they're probably ready to go; however, developers are going to need feedback to make sure there aren't any hidden bugs before they put the final stamp on it. Pretty confident that the beta is solid, though. It sounds from the changelog that most of the reason for putting this up there was to correct hidden bugs that had gotten by previous official releases.
