K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs, DirectShow filters and tools. Codecs and DirectShow filters are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video formats. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your movie files. With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play all the popular audio and video formats and even some rare formats.
The K-Lite Codec Pack always very up-to-date with the newest (and/or best) versions of the components. The installation is fully customizable, meaning that you are able install exactly those components that you really want. Uninstallation removes all files and registry entries created by the pack. It is extremely easy to make a fully customized unattended installation. It tries to avoid potential problems with existing codecs and even fixes some problems. The pack is able to detect broken codecs and filters on your system, and remove them for you. It is a very complete package, containing everything you need to play your movies. Suitable for both novice and expert users. The K-Lite Codec Pack works on Windows 2000/XP/2003/XP64/Vista.
Changes in K-Lite Mega Codec Pack from 2.2.0 to 2.2.5 (2007-06-26): - Updated ffdshow to revision 1320 - Removed DScaler5 MPEG decoder - Removed MainConcept MPEG decoder - Removed Ligos MPEG decoder - Removed MainConcept MPEG audio decoder - Removed Cyberlink MPEG splitter - Removed MainConcept MPEG splitter - Removed Ligos MPEG splitter - Removed Elecard MPEG splitter - All the removed MPEG stuff is still available in the K-Lite MPEG Pack. That can co-exist perfectly fine alongside the regular KLCP - Fixed bug with Gabest MPEG splitter sometimes not installing properly - Updated Codec Tweak Tool - The MPEG-2/DVD decoder will now be deselected by default if nVidia PureVideo is detected as installed. The pack already did this for other populair decoders - Improved file association creation/backup/restore - Minor changes

I have a problem with the previous versions of K-Lite codec pack.
It happens only with Window Media Player.
After frequent files playing the player window becomes green and not responding.
I don't know why.
Can somebody tell me?
I would be thankfull. :)

They've ruled out Quicktime alternative, and that's bad. The plugin is very important as not much codec could read quicktime's and apple's media properly. The sentence
should be able to play all
should be changed to
should be able to play most of

I don't understand why is it still called "Mega Codec"
The Quicktime plugin was removed in version 2.20
now in 2.2.5, they removed MPEG plugins
W-H-Y ?

That's what I wondered! As soon as installed the pack and tried to play mpeg movies, neither Windows Media Player or NeroShowtime accepted the "repeat" function! I had to close the file and open it again! As I've been using K-Lite Codec Packs for a long long time I imediately acknowledged that there was a problem! So, until they fix it with a new version, I downloaded Vista Codec Package and everything went back to normal! I can use the repeat function again on both players!

Sorry, the comments that I posted above concern K-Lite Codec Pack Full, which is the one that I always download! I don't know if that issue exists on the other packs!

In not so many words, they managed to fock up, one of the greatest codec packs.
Dont know what their motives were, but they destroyed, what was considered by many, one of the best all-in-one codec packs in the world...
Shame, but it seems all good thigs must come to an end...

As I've mentioned in my much earlier posts that "Cole2K" is the next best codec pack. It's time everyone switches to it.
