newbie here.. is it necessary to install the newest version of this codec? it seems every month new version comes out! i only have 56k modem so i have limited bandwidth, not like among of you.. i hope someone there would answer my question..

Actually it is cause sometimes like the real media plugin it usually gives you updates to each plugin so yes it is but believe me if it aint broke dont fix it if the pack you have works perfectly then I would wait!!
Just a piece of advice if you put up something leave some info or a change log plus codecguide is down right now so good luck trying to get it!!!
