Use Setup.exe

They can just run the msi and forget the Setup.exe

While it is easily varifiable as a KL file, as you know, the mal-adjusted like to use INSTALL.EXE and SETUP.EXE to do their dirty work.

I wouldn't leave this sort of file on my system unless absolutely necessary.

For those who use the - Start Run Box - and the msi doesn't show up, just select "All Files" instead of just "Programs" and then you will find the MSI, and it will then Run from there.

Later, when you look at the Run History, you will see an identifiable Product.msi instead of a lame Setup.exe

I have to Fast for a while now - too many Lamingtons!

Everytime i try to install Kaspersky it keeps telling me to "Restart"..
After restarting.. it says the same thing..
So now i can't even install any version of Kaspersky ?

Yea.. i am a bit dissapointed right now..
i am a Kaspersky Supporter ..
But this problem has happened twice already..
Last time.. i had to do a clean install because i couldnt install Kaspersky.. and i need Internet Security for my PC..

I don't want to do it again.. Someone told me that Kaspersky has a RootKit Corruption Problem ? I have never heard of this.. but am starting to believe it..

I have even gone into my Registry and manually search for any entry with Kaspersky and deleted it.. Ran the Kaspersky Uninstall Program in Safe Mode with no luck..

Now im stuck without an Internet Security Software.. I feel i will have to do another Clean Install ..

Is KIS running after you reboot and cancel the request to Restart.

Try a REG cleaner (jv16 is my choice).
Install "Your Uninstaller" SN is available.
RE-Install KIS after that.
Configure "YU" for Average Deapth.
Use "YU" to take out KIS.
If is asks to Restart - DONT.
YU will continue to drag out the surplus stuff.
When YU has completed - Restart.
Search the whole HDD for KAS - (Docs+Settings) whoops Vista may complain (may have to unlock things)
You can manually check with (e.g. jv16) to see if all is gone from REG.
Reboot a couple of times, then reinstall MSI.

I use that already.. i love that program :)
But the last time i had a problem with Kaspersky.. i used Your Uninstaller to uninstall and still have a problem.. i did not reboot but let Your Uninstaller clean my PC first..

I was running K.I.S v7.0.0.123 when the problem occured.. this time.. same version..
v123 ..

ONLY what your good judgemant tells you - i.e. that which relates to the matter in hand.

Search - Kaspersky. check Paths etc. to varify its relationship to your purpose.

Everything can be imported/exported , but if some of you have large list of trusted/excluded appz./folders you will have to run setup.exe and upgrade (without manually uninstallation) because exclusion list is only thing that cant be saved with import/export.

For the KasperBoys, chasing beta on a weekly basis:

Let's say that in some alternate dimension Kaspersky detects more than NOD32...
Maybe 2% better detection in this alternate reality...

It is still like 500% slower scanning and use double the memory...

Maybe if you had real contacts at good site that don't have 50 trojans in each file, you wouldn't need so much extra protection.

I can use even ClamAv instead of King NOD and not get virus or trojan, cuz I have good contacts and don't have to fish around in the gutter.

Royalty like NOD32 users don't need to fish around in gutter.

My prime security since the BL war started last year is AVS-Outpost.

We need the Setup.exe like a ~~hole in the head~~ extra hole in the head. :)

Finally.. Got it to work !
Thanks to Kiss747, Liar, vFusion, and Tortus for all your help :)

I tried to uninstall in Safe Mode but Windows would not allow that.
So i used "Your Uninstaller" in Regular Mode.
Did not reboot right away and waited for "Your Uninstaller" to clean the Registry first.

Then i rebooted into Safe Mode.
Ran Kaspersky's Uninstall Program.
Ran avp_remove.cmd in C Drive.
Cleaned out the Trash Bin, Temp Folders, Kaspersky Folder, System Restore, etc.

Then i booted into Regular Mode and downloaded K.I.S v7.0.0.125 from Liar's Link.
Installed w/ .msi file.
It installed fine this time :)

I don't know what is different this time.
Could it be a problem with v7.0.0.123's Installer ?

The Setup.exe, in this case, is basically the same as a BATch file that "Calls" the msi to open, because msi's don't show up as an executable program. MSI's use the Microsoft Installer v?.? which should be on most PC's or DL'd from MS.

The effect in running the EXE or the MSI is the same result in either case.

i wonder if it had something to do with v123.
It happened twice.
The first time i thought i made a mistake somewhere.
But the second time.. after doing a clean install.. i knew it was Kaspersky.

yea.. that awesome that v125 is working :) i just don't understand why i was having the install problem before. i wonder if it had something to do with v123. It happened twice. The first time i thought i made a mistake somewhere. But the second time.. after doing a clean install.. i knew it was Kaspersky. Anyone ever hear about Kaspersky's Rootkit Corruption Problem ?

With due respect Man, I don't think that's enough reason to single out, or point the blame, at Kaspersky in both the "Clean Install" and "Rootkit" factors.

Nobody is perfect, but by geez, the Kaspersky's are trying to be, and we should be supportive to people with such a determination. They are hard to find.

Sorry to go on so much.

Another possible install problem which relates to NOT cleaning properly.
KL's installer will "pick up" a Key File (or one particular Key File if many exist) if there is one in the same folder as the installer.
The same may apply if there are Key Files in the default Home Folder or maybe even its Sub-folders.
I say this because the one it picks up maybe a Blacklisted one.

Best to have the installer in a Folder on it own. (Hint - I always use one and only ONE specially named Folder to Run ALL installers from. That makes them easily identifiable in Registry housekeeping).

Axfleming, this is V7. V6 of Kaspersky was only a tad heavier than NODshit. V7 is just as light if not lighter on ANY system. First scan will be slow but with the iSwift and iChecker technology on my 4th scan... It takes 15 minutes.

So my word of advice to you is... Learn how technology works, use that technology and THEN come back here and talk shit about it.

it was mentioned on another Tech Forum i am part of that Kaspersky has been known to have Rootkit Corruption problems in terms of Uninstallation. People have reported that there were problems uninstalling Kaspersky because of this.

On July 1st at 12:41 AM CET ESET became aware of a false positive. Some advertising banners were incorrectly flagged as being infected with the JavaScript trojan JS/Tivso.14a.gen Trojan. By 2:00 AM CET update version 2366 went out, correcting the misdetection. Later ESET researchers discovered that the generic signature covering JS/Tivso.13a.gen also would generate a false positive and at 7:01 PM update version 2368 was deployed to eliminate all known remaining problems with misdetection of this broad family of threats.

How did this happen? There are several Trojans in the JS/Tivso family. The bad guys are constantly modifying the code to evade detection by anti-virus. In addition to constant minor changes, the bad guys obfuscate the script used to write the trojans. This means they scramble the code to try to make more difficult to detect the malicious software. In order to detect the new variations before they are even created, ESET uses a technology called generic signatures. Generic signatures compare files, or in this case scripts, to things we know are bad. It�s like when you see a duck, but do not know what type of duck it is. You know it�s a duck though because it looks so much like all of the other ducks you have seen.

Unfortunately, some advertisers decided to use techniques in their advertising banners that are extremely close to the same techniques the bad guys use. For whatever reason, the advertisers do not want you to know what programs they are running on your computer without your knowledge. This type of problem is only found on web pages where someone wishes to cause your browser to run code without you being aware of what they are doing, or able to easily find out what is happening. It sure looked like a duck, but it was a chicken. It didn�t even taste like chicken :)

ESET has received no reports of users who were dissatisfied because an advertisement that was trying to hide what it was doing was not allowed to run, however, the pop-up warning about the threat was a bit disconcerting.

I love Kaspersky.
It is much better than NOD32 because it allows all ads to come into my computer, while NOD32 blocks some poor defenseless ads, unfairly labeling them as trojans.
Only Kaspersky allows me to see all of my beloved ads.
I always make sure to defrag my harddrive regularly so all the ads Kaspersky lets in faithfully have room to stay in my Temporary Files folder.
All those NOD32 users do not know what they are missing out on.

for those kaspersky users pls be aware, i tested a few pc that install kaspersky, it found virus but not all of them.

after that i tried to scan by using NOD32, it found more that 600 virus in that pc.

so, if u still using kaspersky, good luck to u.

I was using NOD32 but it blocked the wonderful Ad "ebBannerMain_62_36_1_.js", saying it was trojan.

I could not get this nice Ad on my PC with NOD32 installed, so I uninstalled it and switched to Kaspersky.

As you can see in Anti-Intelligentware's earlier post, Kaspersky allows this handsome Ad, so now it is happily living in my Temporary Internet files folder, providing wonderful benefits to my PC.

All I can say is that Kaspersky is most truly the King.

The offerings from nvidia are top of the line cards. ATI has just introduced their first DX10 card and it may out do nvidia. I havent seen any real world test on it yet. Still having the best of the best is always a losing battle when it comes to hardware as something new is always just a day away. If you have a video card that is an nvidia 7900 base up your pretty well set as anything that can reach above 60FPS with all the AA and ASF at 8x or above on then any PC game is going to run fine. However debate about what is the best in this tread is more of an oxymoron being kaspershit sucks so bad itself.

Kaspersky is king, without any dispute. McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i is second best option, but ESET NOD32 is proved bullshit, with false sense of security, NOD32 users are spamming here. I have trojans,not detected by NODcrap. So Proved:

McAfee is second best
F-Secure is third best
Avira is another good choice, but

As for "system", DumbBoySes, when Doom 3 came out I picked up a 6800 Ultra just for that game.
When it couldn't be found anywhere I went to the head office of BestBuy and picked it up personally.

Been there, done that.

These are some of the parts that make up my "system".

1. PIII with 512M ram and dual NICS running W2K Pro with Winroute firewall and cFosSpeed traffic shaping doing the routing. The Winroute has builtin McAfee virus Scanning.

2. Dual Xeon, 2Gig ram and 10K U160 SCSI drives running W2K Server, with F-Secure Antivirus Server realtime scanning (note F-Secure uses Kaspersky in addition to other engines).
When I download a file, it gets saved on the server, cuz a scheduled task runs a NOD32 on-demand scan every minute on new files.
As a bonus the server is also running Squid for web caching plus Privoxy for ad blocking and GIF deanimation.

You know what that means, dweeb?

I don't need no stinking firewall, antivirus or ad blocker on my workstation.
My stream is checked three separate times before it even gets there.

My cpu usage almost always ZERO.

Beat that with your "system", little boy.

McAfee + F-Secure (with Kaspersky) + NOD32 and NO OVERHEAD ON MY PC.

Which firewall u use to complete the fortness of your system against network attack, or you use router only. What about internetwork attacks?
