Why don't you talk in a more pleasant way? There is no need to argue about that.

3 Very good antivirus ( Nod32,KAV and Avast) to my humble opinion.
Avast bug free very easy to use, but do miss when scanning
Nod bug free as well, very easy to use, but do miss when scanning
KAV not bug free, very complicate to use. Does not miss match when scanning, Do create time to time fake infections. Block the all system if it does not slow it down. Yes it is the best of all if they can make it light weight and more user friendly.
Beside all those issues KAV is still the Queen

Is Kaspersky better than ZoneAlarms? Honestly...please tell me your views...
RE : by tortus on 2006-08-11 00:35:46
Most people who use ‘CA’ products like to believe that they are power users.  To be ‘honest’ with you, it is better to let them keep believing that, to help us define their overall capacities. If Kaspersky products don’t work well for some people, that also reflects their capabilities as it is surely because their ‘systems’ were in a prior mess.  Some will rush to contradict that, which is a dead giveaway as to why there is such a mess. There is a poor chap on another thread who is convinced that Kas mangled his File System, where instead, it’s most likely that ‘something else’ was the cause and in turn fixed by Kas ending further more devastating problems.  He inferred that his problem was not uncommon - no argument there, clean build or no clean build.

Kas is not complicated, but depending on the complicity of your system, initially it will take a little while to ‘bed-in’.  It is just doing its job.  After a few days, you will curse yourself for not taking the leap sooner – if you are ‘honest’ with yourself.

Those Nod guys will convert, eventually.

Ex - Trend, McAfee, Nod, CA, and others, but wilfully never Norton - what an insult.

Re: Kaspersky Lab Products 6.0.1.359 Beta by potent_boy on 2006-08-10 21:29:30
I used Zonealarm Internet Security few months back. It is strong only as a firewall, the rest are weak compared to Kaspersky. I used Norton Internet Security 2006 for few months, until it was destroyed by a flaw in IE three months ago. Then I switched to Mcafee, that was very sluggish and soft in action. Missed lots of trojans and registry changes.
Finally I tried Kaspersky, it really is the best. The firewall really stops all connections untill you respond. The anti trojan really delets the nasty files from nasty web sites. It all works as it is supposed to. I will stay with it forever and may buy it. It is worth to be supported.
(I already tried Sygate firewall, PC-Cillin, Outpost firewall, Zonelabs various products, Norton IS 2005 and 6, Mcafee IS 2006).

Excellent post , thank you for your experience , i'm gonna give it a try.

I've been using ZA Pro , but it takes so long to load up , and munches away

my at my cpu resources - though i can't knock the firewal , it's been brilliant ,

but Nod32 and AVG have caught much more then ZA's AV.

I use AdAware Pro ( Ad-watch ) to keep an eye on my registry , you wouldn't even know it's there and loads instantly , she's as tight as a gnats arzole , and asks for permission before making any registry changes.

That was just the post i was looking for , thanks again.

Re: Kaspersky Lab Products 6.0.1.359 Beta by mrwizard on 2006-08-11 23:00:34
the overall solution is to have more than 1 AV because no AV is perfect in all areas, if you want to be more secure and coverage against all kinds of viruses then this would be the way. of course you dont put real time protection for all the AV's, but use them when scanning. and before you ask use the AV which has the best real time protection.

good luck.
RE : by koliko on 2006-08-12 01:55:59

I completely agree with mrwizard. I use NOD32 and run BitDefender in the background (I’ve disabled its on-access scanner and only allowed its registry control). Since NOD32 has really low RAM footprint, I use it as the alpha AV. The beta, i.e. BitDefender is used for on-demand scanning and it sometimes finds what NOD32 has missed. When I download some “shady” file which is almost always in zip or rar archive, and if NOD32 does not block it, I ALWAYS ask for a second opinion, i.e. I scan it using BitdeDefender.

I’d also like to try KAV, but its installation refuses to run unless I uninstall NOD32.

And, I’d like the people who argue and insult one another to read the following:

“You should respect each other and refrain from disputes; you should not, like water and oil, repel each other, but should, like milk and water, mingle together.” – said by a wise man around 490 B.C.

Re: Kaspersky Lab Products 6.0.1.359 Beta by Drooper on 2006-08-12 02:16:24
After reading recent posts i've decided to install KIS-6.1 beta after using ZoneAlarm for a long time.
I can't see Kaspersky doing a better job than ZA firewall protection , because it never once let me down , but
what i did like at once with Kaspersky , is that it monitors every single port and reports back to me and asks for a
decision on every tiny activity - this is what i wanted , personally. So to contrid and mafia boy , who asked is Zonealarm better than Kaspersky , in my opinion , they're probably both the same and it's more a matter of luck
it seems.
I'll miss Nod32 , and i'll miss ZA , but as soon as i installed kaspersky it detected a virus i must have had for ages ,
which was winjrs32 , missed by ZA , Nod32 and AVG.
I nearly crapped myself when kaspersky alerted me of the virus it found , cos i had my speakers full blast
after listening to some music earlier :)
Re: Kaspersky Lab Products 6.0.1.359 Beta by Drooper on 2006-08-12 03:52:16
After i turned Limewire off , Kaspersky carried on asking me if it could access the internet ( Limewire ).
I blocked every request , but it repeated itself for over 15 minutes.
I couldn't be bothered anymore , so i've uninstalled it.
There's something about the AV i like so i'll install that and use a different firewall
RE : by tortus on 2006-08-12 13:47:04

I don’t want to encroach, you sound very capable.

Could you re-think the process that you’ve said here.

Did you turn off Limewire so as not to autostart next boot?

Re: Kaspersky Lab Products 6.0.1.359 Beta by Drooper on 2006-08-12 05:11:23
Well said on one part Joe but on the other you say Nod32 outperforms all the rest.
I would say using performance tests as a validatory tool for any AV , not just Nod32 is a com[plete waste
of time and makes your qualifying argument for your favourite antivirus , totally untrue , because time and time
again , one is finding what the other is missing.
If kaspersky finds one virus Nod32 does not , ( which it has ) , then all performance tests are a nonsense.
I enjoy your posts and agree with your final summing up Joe , none of them are the be all and end all of antivirus-land.
They're all the same , just as good as each other and just as fallible as each other.
I'm giving Kaspersky AV a try , along with the free version of ZoneAlarm for a firewall , ( i read what you
said about Tiny btw ;) )
I'm also using the free version of ewido.
Boot-up's pretty fast , and footprints are small.
Time will tell the rest.
Cheers Joe

Depending on your HDDs and your on-time and the state of your system, KAV can take a few days before it is fully UP TO SPEED, when it will run as fast and more effortlessly than Nod, which is why many (the patient) have become converts, even during v5 days. For those comparing ZA and Kaspersky, try running them on a w9x system.  You will then have no doubts whatsoever....
Re: Kaspersky Lab Products 6.0.1.359 Beta by someguy on 2006-08-27 14:02:04
Facts are Facts. Let me set the record straight.

krapsky IS CRAP.

There All Done and Said,
never has to be repeated ever again because everyone knows,
( except nieve people..*cough* kaspersky uses *cough* ) NOD32 is way better.

OK All Done and Said, now no-one is going to argue, NOD32 has and will always be the best. And so you have it NOD32 wins in a landslide. That is all it will never be spoken of again.......THE END
