A faulty signature update from Kaspersky Lab on Wednesday flagged up Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) as infected with a low-risk virus, Huhk-C. As a result the core Windows component was quarantined or worse.

Kaspersky released a revised update alongside advice on how to recover legitimate system and application files from quarantine (the default setting) within two hours. But that's not much consolation for users that had set their software to auto-delete infected files, who found themselves with hosed systems.

Among those affected was Reg reader Carl. "A false positive caused the deletion of explorer.exe.," he reports. "It would have only caused problems for companies performing their network scan during the hours that the dodgy update was present - which included me, unfortunately. I was working out of hours to fix the previous Kaspersky update problem. I finally finished sorting it all at 5am.".

On the hundreds of computers I've installed Kaspersky on none have had this issue. GG for you.

As for NOD32King, Kaspersky came in second for the test in May. Kaspersky 6.

Kaspersky 7 IS King.

Anti smart...100's of systems??

Riiiggggttttt..

You are as big a liar as uagadugu.

If anyone was ever dumb enough to trust their system to you deserves the fuked up mess that a dipshit like you would leave behind. Your understanding of a PC are seriously rivaled by my dog. Whom I would trust with a system before I even began to consifer you to fix it.

And be glad they tested with kaspershit 6 instead of 7 otherwise it would have been and more embarassing defeat for the russians.

Now get the fuk out of here scumbag liar(hundreds of systems..pft..LMAO).

And dont forget.

NOD32 is the proven leader in AV protection.

Use kaspershit and your as fuking stupid as...well..anti-smart.

More from Channel Register:

"Postings to Kaspersky's forum reveal Carl was far from alone in experiencing problems as a result of the issue. The false alert flap follows just days after earlier problems in updating Kaspersky Lab anti-virus software led to some machines locking up. The close proximity of the two events has raised questions about the reliability of the Russian anti-virus firm's testing regime."

Not even a thousand betas can help Kaspersky,
LOL!

Yo, Tiny Brain Dude.
This site is in English, as the headlines are in English, the link buttons are in English, navigation links are in English...
English, cretin.
I don't know what the hell you are saying, and I don't care.
It might be funny to you to have a private joke with others who can understand, but think about it: what is the point of directing something to someone when they can't understand it?

L8r retard.

Sorry man, forgive my rude response to you, thanks for the support.
These Kaspersky fans have been spreading lies all over, with fake reviews and such, very rude talking about others family and such.
I post links to real awards and reviews from the most respected professionals, who all say the same, NOD32 is the best.
Sorry again for the response, bro, dealing with these idiots sometimes is hard work.

Peace.
RE:Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool v7.0.0.180 by NOD32King on 2007-12-22 00:27:59
@Kaspersky users:

Some of you were using NOD32 and then used Kaspersky and Kaspersky said you had trojan which NOD32 said nothing about.
Some see this as a sign that Kaspersky is therefore better than NOD32 and decided to switch.

Some points for you to consider:
1. There are trojans, and there are trojans. Some are low-level threats, just annoying, and some are high-level threats, dangerous to your PC and data.
2. Just because a trojan is living on your PC that does not automatically mean you are in danger. Like a gun with bullets and another without, sure they are both guns but each has vastly different capabilities.

Kaspersky relies on its database to determine threats, like they would use fingerprint database to check for crooks, but if the crook has not yet been fingerprinted, how can you find him in the database?

NOD32 relies on heuristics to determine threat level, it examines the BEHAVIOR of the item.

So while Kaspersky will jump up and down hysterically shouting "Gun! Gun! I have just removed a gun for you!", NOD32 knows that empty gun can't do shit so it takes it easy.

People can claim that Kaspersky found something that NOD32 did not, but no one can claim that NOD32 allowed DAMAGE that Kaspersky prevented.

Kaspersky has had chkdsk issues, deleting explorer causing people to have to re-install OS, etc; NOD32 has never allowed damage to occur to your PC, and I challenge any Kaspersky user to show proof otherwise.

These are the facts; you decide.

NOD32King

Your forgetting some major details in your Crime Time tail.

Kaspersky has a larger fingerprint listing then NODshit. Meaning yes, once again... It detects more. See any on-demand test with a sample size of atleast half of av-comparatives.

Kaspersky 7 has heuristics, though there not as good as NOD32 yet they still received an Advanced + on the last Retrospective test.

And Kaspersky has a MUCH better removal rate of malware, and can even repair some or ALL of the damage that was done. Bullet wound goes bye bye. If the gun gets fired.

You saying there's a chance that the low lvl trojan may only spy on what you do, it doesn't change the fact it is a trojan. Just like in a school, it may not be loaded but if you have a gun. It's going to be removed from the school as a trojan should and will be removed from your computer with Kaspersky.

I thought you'd know that being your not out of high school yet.
RE : by NOD32King on 2007-12-22 04:29:00
Yes, not all of us can be out of high school like you, Anti-Malware.

Of course, Andreas Clementi, the man YOU TRUST, IS out of high school, and he gave NOD32 the award of 2007 Product of the Year, so forgive me if someone still in high school like me is confused....
