XviD is a video codec just like DivX.
Most new movies and videos are being encoded with XviD.
The XviD Codec is needed to play movies encoded by XviD.
XviD is better than DivX.

What's New in This Release:

· {core}: New experimental SMP support.
· {core}: Trellis improvements (according to sysKin).
· On uniprocessor machines set number of threads to 0!

Better? Does it support integrated subtitles which you can play on (even old) MPEG4 dvd players? High-definition? I don't think so. DivX6 does.

DivX6 is brilliant.

Better check out the DrDivX2 post from yesterday.

" divx 6 sucks ass, xvid 1.1 and h264 beats its ass any day!!!"

So much for coming up with a good argument.

One of these days (as soon as you give DivX6 a try) you'll realise that XviD is an MPEG4 codec from the stoneage.

The DivX6 codec is free and DrDivX6 is free as well, effectively removing all objections I had against the DivX endeavour.

Divx 5 V DivX 6 V Xvid by Legion on 2006-03-01 23:56:46
I encoded the well known 2.5 hour film Gladiator  using 2 passes using pro 5.2.1 and nowhere DivX 6..1.1. The quality of  codec 5.x was far greater of the newer 6.  Now Xvid using only 1 pass was clearer than DivX 6 but about the same as 5. x

Unfortunately 2 pass setting crashed using Divx 2.3 tool with Xvid!  I 'm back using DivX 5 now for  2 pass and Xvid now and again, because sometimes the quality can be better with Xvid!

Nero Recode by the way is absolute shite for recoding from a dvd source(split hazy screen on 2 passes! but fabulous for converting an already encoded DivX/Xvid to  AAC format.
