MESSENGER PLUS IS SAFE!

It's crap because of the potential harm it can do to your computer. Look up C2.Lop on google and see if you would want even the CHANCE it might be installed. In addition, the new "Contest" icon that the author of this program has included in the most recent incarnations is a back door Trojan that was installed on my computer AFTER I selected "I do not wish to support" during installation. As far as I'm concerned Cyril Paciullo (I have no idea who Cher McNamara is unless it is another one of Paciullo's aliases, but they are not the publisher of this malware) is a scam artist making money off of gullible young Live Messenger Users.

spiritinexile: you are right that Messenger Plus! bundles C2.Lop with it's installer, however it has been modified greatly so as not to be more harmful than ads (which we see throughout the net everyday anyway). Messenger Plus! also makes this optional if you read the installer instead of just clicking through ;)

As for the contest icon, that was for a legit contest which had many happy winners. Patchou runs contests/competitions every year and I have been a benificiary before. The icon also disappeared after the competition was finished.

Finally, as for the reasoning behind using such an infamous program for revenue generating, it is because the other alternatives aren't profitable enough and as long as Cyril can keep his modified and safe version of the adware then it is fine for his concious for him to continue bundling it.

I understand that you might not agree with this, but I believe in people having the opportunity to make their decisions for themselves rather than listening to just one side of the story.

I've been waiting for this a looooonnnng time.
This is great but I don't really see any big change... Version 5 will be better XD but the 4.50 features are still really nice

markee88: Thanks for the expanded info. Seems the installer has changed since my last encounter, as the option to opt-out of the C2.lop adware was indeed NOT present at that time. Good to know that steps in a less obtrusive direction have been made. I do know that many faithful users have grown quite fond of this ad... err... add-on, and the enhancements it brings to their messaging experience. I also recognize a developer's desire to profit from their work. If a potential user wishes to support said developer and the continued evolution of the software, I suppose to them it is worth the risk of installing a product with a speckled past, even if the pattern indicates a good chance of future revenue-generating inclusions that may or may not be declared, optional, or intrusive. I, personally, elect not to support or endorse such a product, as it's usefulness doesn't out-weigh my disgust at the past(?)practices of it's author. Guess I'm just crazy like that...

There's a high risk Trojan inside..i have NODcrap32 it didn't detect it even after 2 days since i installed it.the pc was behaving like a source of adware pop-up center without entering any bad site.thanx to spyware doctor which detected and removed it totally !!!
RE:Messenger Plus! Live 4.5 by markee88 on 2007-12-12 16:03:01
nadim80: you installed the OPTIONAL adware in the set-up. If you spent the time to read through the pages and not agreed to everything you would have noticed this. By using something like spyware doctor you have left a lot of stuff behind and broken it, if you used the uninstaller in add/remove programs then you could have gotten rid of it easily (even without uninstalling Messenger Plus itself).

spiritinexile:the adare has always been optional, but lately Patchou has made extra effort to show that it is optional. And he has improved the uninstaller to just get rid of the adware without uninstalling everything.
