Microsoft To Retry Rollup Pack

Microsoft will try again with its post SP4 rollup package for Windows 2000 by releasing an updated version. The update announcement comes after consumers complained about a wide range of compatibility issues with the package:"After the release of Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4, we identified several issues that may occur when you install this update rollup. These issues are isolated, and affect few customers. If you are affected by these issues, we suggest that you do not install Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 until the corresponding hotfix is available. We plan to reissue Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 soon. Several hotfixes will be integrated into the new version of Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4."

Issues ranged from network printer connectivity problems to widespread malfunctions of 3rd party security programs. The initial release of the pack took the place of an 'SP5' for Windows 2000 and ended mainstream support by Microsoft on the aging operating system.

That is really a shame. Windows 2000 is an excellent operating system whether you're using it for office tasks, multimedia, or gaming.

It is also MUCH faster than Windows XP, and certainly will be better than Windows Vista.

I wish MS would realize when they have a keeper, and stick with it....

It is commercial. They can sell other OS if they still keep Windows 2000.It happened for windows NT. I guess  that they will Phase out windows XP when Vista ship in 2006.

Win2K is also MORE Secure than XP and less prone to Viruses.
Not as BLOATED, either!

MS wouldn't realize a good thing, if they tripped over it!  :)
