Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) is a security technology that helps protect Windows users from spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Known spyware on your PC can be detected and removed. This helps reduce negative effects caused by spyware including slow PC performance, annoying pop-up ads, unwanted changes to Internet settings, and unauthorized use of your private information. Continuous protection improves Internet browsing safety by guarding over 50 ways spyware can enter your PC.
Since releasing Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) on January 6, 2005, we have received feedback from customers and have made enhancements to the software based on this feedback. We have enhanced some of the real-time protection agents, added new threat categories, and improved stability and performance. If you are using a previous version you can simply upgrade to the refreshed version. The version number of the refreshed version is 1.0.509. To check the version number, click About Microsoft AntiSpyware… on the Help menu.
Note: This download has been updated to include signature version 5687, which is the most current as of February 10, 2005. Customers who have installed Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware prior to this date do not need to re-download. They will receive signature updates as part of their next automatic or manual signature update.

you can't blame them for trying..
making this antispyware is the let's say FIRST step of user controled surfing, no cookies without click that "Allow"
Users at the level of newbie should take the easy way, like ad-aware, since ms antispyware is somewhat more complex and still a BETA
I personally have webroot's software (firewall and spy sweeper) which appears to be very good and user controling is very low but with a nice GUI that explains almost every detail (if you don't like touching the options :) )

No spyware software is 100% complete... if u use for example Spybot it will detect a lot of spyware... u clean and remove... then u use ad-aware and it will find somthing too.... the best thing u can do is to browse the web with Firefox and use more than one anti spyware product...
Personally I will never use a M$ product to clean my computer... it will surelly put more crap on it :D
MS Antispyware is a beta BUT since MS "absorbed".. (kinda like a vicious amoeba) the Giant company it is based on an established product & seems to work well.

It's not quite there yet!
Been using the beta (with all the updates). Also been using Ad-Adware 105 and just got SBC Yahoo's. Here are some test results:
Microsoft Antispy ran 1:54 and found nothing
SBC Yahoo ran 65 secs and found 29 items
Ad-Adware ran 33 secs and found 32 items

As Techn, the best is Ad-Aware Pro 1.05.

This is just GIANT Spyware removal.
Microsoft say it is a Betta version,,its exactly the same as it always has been when it was sold as Giant.
Also did you know that these spyware companies get pay offs if they leave out certain spyware companies from their scans.
Spybot S&D use to be great but they have sold out too. That program says it finds this and that but in reality it is only set up to find half of what it says it will.
Don't believe me,,,, then find a really old version of the spybot program and run it and see what the newer version leaves behind,,Heaps & heaps

I would like to wait a little bit longer ... actually a LOT longer before I use any anti-something product out of the Micro$oft $table$. I prefer the Ad-Aware/Spybot SnD combination anyday.
