Microsoft has detailed its forthcoming privacy and security plans, which include
enhancements to Internet Explorer 7 and the addition of digital rights management
software into applications at the document level.
Despite earlier plans not to do a browser update until Longhorn's release in
2006, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates confirmed that code for IE 7 will be
available this summer in beta and in full by Christmas.
The browser will incorporate antivirus technology from recently acquired Sybari,
and enhanced anti-phishing software.
"Anti-phishing will definitely be built in to IE 7," said Brendon Lynch, senior
privacy strategist at Microsoft.
"We are looking to make it very visible and easy to use to ensure that it's
really effective. The technology works in a similar way to anti-spam technologies
by picking up keywords and writing styles."
Looking further ahead, the Redmond giant plans to introduce more control over
rights to information, even within documents.
SQL Server 2005, due for launch in November, will see the encryption of all data,
with individual user access based on clearance levels.
Lynch explained that some customers are interested in using the same technology
within documents, so that certain paragraphs of text could be hidden from
unauthorized users while still allowing them to view the remaining parts of the
document.
"Office 12 will see some of this technology," he said. "Then the same principles
can be applied to other applications."
Much of the technology to perform these tasks is in existence. Metadata in Word
documents already records keystrokes, and logs which computer opened which
document.
In addition computer systems using Server 2003 and Office 2003 can be configured
to lock down documents from selected users.

Erratum: I don't trust Microsoft.
I think it's time for a coffee.

Why not hijack this thread to say firefox is better? It's the truth. Internet explorer is quicker and easier since no real setup is involved, but take time to set up your firefox environment with addons you want, you're set. Heck, you can even get portablefirefox and bundle your addons, settings, bookmarks, cookies, etc so you can work with a familliar environment anywhere. You definately can't do that with IE. IE really needs a lot more to it to keep up with firefox. They could start with "tabbed browsing". I hate having a group of six or so windows on the taskbar. Especially so if the IE's popup killer fails. A tab is easier to close :)

I look forward to the release of this. I only use Firefox now because of the tabs and the simple, and highly customizable interface.
But in all reality, IE is a much better browser, and is much more powerful. Firefox has so many issues, I would probably cause the server here to hang because of the massive amount of text here in this chat box, trying to explain all the issues the amatuer browser Firefox has that IE doesnt.
This next IE is supposed to have tabs. And the current IE is already as secure as the current Firefox. Actually, it is more secure than Firefox.
All these people don't use IE because of sour grapes. People in European countries will never understand the way business works in the U.S. Don't blame microsoft for being so large, and diverse. Blame the people that buy their product. After all, that is how they became so large! And also don't blame microsoft for being some sort of a monopoly. Blame the laws in the U.S. Except for legally stealing the idea for a GUI way back in the day, Microsoft has done everything by the books. Doesn't mean it was all ethical and morally respectable.
I happen to agree with you, and the three reasons I am not currently using IE are:
-Tabbed Browsing.
-Adblock Extension (I really love this)
-Download "security" on all exe files. I hate the security warnings in IE that I don't get in FireFox.
Other than that, I would be using IE right now. It is still a viable browser, and still the best one.
"People in European countries will never understand the way business works in the U.S." What do u mean writing that? I believe u never worked in ur lifetime... I'm absolulety sure Mother$ship Micro$ost has european employees in it's CEO staff... Are u nutz?
I agree IE needs tabs [like Opera/Firefox] but I will never use Internet Explorer for all websites. For fun and p0rn0graphy, Firefox is much better&faster than I. Explorer.
Micro$oft even created its own browser... We all know M$ has changed whole NCSA Mosaic's source code to assimilate it and pushing it to integrate M$ comunity... That's why Windows XP is called Windows Borg Ediction LMAO
Try teste another browser before blaim ppl for have different opinions.

I will like to use IE7, I hope it runes well, so far I have used Firefox and IE6 and lots of others and I keep comming back to IE6 for the activex install protection and works well with phpBB boards and is very fast I also like Opera alot also because of the speed and download manager, firefox just loads things so slow like alot of text for example and the interface is not clean enough like operas or simple enough like IE6...anyways :)
