Mozilla Battens the Hatches Against IE 7.0

If evidence were needed that the new browser war will be won or lost on the security message, along comes the Mozilla Foundation with public confirmation. Unfazed by Microsoft Corp.'s plan to roll out a security-centric Internet Explorer refresh later this year, the open-source Foundation says it will hire more staff to work full time on security issues and beef up its public relations efforts to beat the secure browsing drum.

In an interview with eWEEK.com, Mozilla director of engineering Chris Hoffman said the Foundation plans to add another staffer to join Dan Veditz, a long-time Mozilla contributor and ex-Netscape employee who now serves as lead engineer for security.

"We're looking to create another position to oversee the entire infrastructure for development and doing releases. We're adding full-time help to help maintain the level of security we're striving for," Hoffman said.

Mozilla has also launched a recruitment drive to find user interface developers, particularly in the PSM (Personal Security Manager), which handles the performance of cryptographic operations for the Mozilla Suite (which includes the flagship Firefox browser).

Mozilla Firefox outperforms IE in every way. Always has and always will. It is far more secure, less prone to crashes and hacks, is way faster and much lighter.

You say it is a lot lighter,, but because you have to keep IE installed it defeats the purpose of it being lighter.
It would be even better if you could delete IE all together without adverse effects.
I have tried to remove IE altogether without crippling XP. I do not think you can remove it completely because it is built into windows.Best you can do is to shut it down but it always seems to show up again.
But I still think that if Mozzila and Opera where under seige as often as IE is from hackers that they might just break also.
That graph does not show the amount of hits each browser has taken from hackers. I bet IE would get hit 10 times (it might even be higher than that) for each one hit on Mozzila or Opera.

You also have to keep Mozilla Firefox installed, but it is not as resource hungry and bloated as IE.
True, that IE is part of Windows, but much larger than Firefox and most other browsers.
Take a close look at how much memory IE uses just to boot up, compared to Firefox.
Firefox is much faster and the memory is returned to the system after you shut it down. Not so with IE.

Creemoreguy back with his blind ignorance. People with a black & white view of things are both dangerous and sad. They lose any weight at all to their comments.

Then we have the absolute contrast in RobinBanks.
Fact based information weighting in pros and cons to both sides.

Bill gates is an imp that is hidden and lives inside of internet explorer. You can't see him. He is waiting to come out and say "boo".

Inside mozilla, godzilla lives. And you can see him because he didn't make 2 pacts with the devil and the government.

I really wonder how Shao manages to find his way on here or any other site, since this individual is both blind to the facts and brain-dead to boot.
Obviously brainwashed by MS and the truth about how Bill Gates stole every idea and software from honest developers to create an excuse of an O/S and a browser than nobody in the know would ever use, for obvious reasons.
The main reason why MS products get hacked so often is because they contain so many security flaws, buggy code that even a child could hack them.
MS even admits that they are aware of the security weaknesses in their products, but do very little to tighten them, therefore we now have choices as to which O/S and which Browsers we prefer.
Case in point for Shao, Windows is NOT an O/S. Check the source code, IF you know what that is... It has DOS written all over it.

LOL. Every comment you make keeps proving my point on how lost you are.
You are definitely soaking up my criticism like a sponge. Must be an issue of low esteme.
But, be glad you at least can read source code, though assembly is probably also to complex for you.

Read the following for clarification on your indoctrinated and the preconcieved thoughts: :)
I'm quite happy with my blindness and braindead capability to boot. I must be very lucky to have been on the internet for over 15 years without one single hack, at least as to what my IDS tell me, and not one single virii either.
I'm also lucky I've managed to work as net technician and hardware/software support on Macintosh from 6.x vers up. Don't know how I got Slackware or FreeBSD running and able to operate them. And of course all MS OS:es from DOS 1.0 up.
Poor people and companies depending on my 25+ years of sec and net skills :P

I do wish you wake up one day though. But you seem to have been too deeply programmed by others thoughts and you clearly seem to be a follower of the "cool" and popular opinions of the geek community. You need to learn to think and research yourself and make own deductions from that (wishfull thinking from me though :P ).
