Firefox is a free, open-source web browser for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X and is based on the Mozilla codebase. It is small, fast and easy to use, and offers many advantages over Internet Explorer, such as the ability to block pop-up windows.

we dont need a rapidshare link, the official is faster, doesnt require any crap either.

lets BAN rapidshare on here admins, people can use sendspace instead, this way there wont be rapidshare points spammers, also sendspace doesnt require waiting or entering image codes and is faster.

WHAT'S NEW?
Re: Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.2 Final by DoDie on 2007-02-24 01:03:39
What's New in Firefox 2:
* Visual Refresh: Firefox 2's theme and user interface have been updated to improve usability without altering the familiarity of the browsing experience.
* Built-in phishing protection: Phishing Protection warns users when they encounter suspected Web forgeries, and offers to return the user to their home page. Phishing Protection is turned on by default, and works by checking sites against either a local or online list of known phishing sites. This list is automatically downloaded and regularly updated when the Phishing Protection feature is enabled.
* Enhanced search capabilities: Search term suggestions will now appear as users type in the integrated search box when using the Google, Yahoo! or Answers.com search engines. A new search engine manager makes it easier to add, remove and re-order search engines, and users will be alerted when Firefox encounters a website that offers new search engines that the user may wish to install.
* Improved tabbed browsing: By default, Firefox will open links in new tabs instead of new windows, and each tab will now have a close tab button. Power users who open more tabs than can fit in a single window will see arrows on the left and right side of the tab strip that let them scroll back and forth between their tabs. The History menu will keep a list of recently closed tabs, and a shortcut lets users quickly re-open an accidentally closed tab.
* Resuming your browsing session: The Session Restore feature restores windows, tabs, text typed in forms, and in-progress downloads from the last user session. It will be activated automatically when installing an application update or extension, and users will be asked if they want to resume their previous session after a system crash.
* Previewing and subscribing to Web feeds: Users can decide how to handle Web feeds (like this one), either subscribing to them via a Web service or in a standalone RSS reader, or adding them as Live Bookmarks. My Yahoo!, Bloglines and Google Reader come pre-loaded as Web service options, but users can add any Web service that handles RSS feeds.
* Inline spell checking: A new built-in spell checker enables users to quickly check the spelling of text entered into Web forms (like this one) without having to use a separate application.
* Live Titles: When a website offers a microsummary (a regularly updated summary of the most important information on a Web page), users can create a bookmark with a "Live Title". Compact enough to fit in the space available to a bookmark label, they provide more useful information about pages than static page titles, and are regularly updated with the latest information. There are several websites that can be bookmarked with Live Titles, and even more add-ons to generate Live Titles for other popular websites.
* Improved Add-ons manager: The new Add-ons manager improves the user interface for managing extensions and themes, combining them both in a single tool.
* JavaScript 1.7: JavaScript 1.7 is a language update introducing several new features such as generators, iterators, array comprehensions, let expressions, and destructuring assignments. It also includes all the features of JavaScript 1.6.
* Extended search plugin format: The Firefox search engine format now supports search engine plugins written in Sherlock and OpenSearch formats and allows search engines to provide search term suggestions.
* Updates to the extension system: The extension system has been updated to provide enhanced security and to allow for easier localization of extensions.
* Client-side session and persistent storage: New support for storing structured data on the client side, to enable better handling of online transactions and improved performance when dealing with large amounts of data, such as documents and mailboxes. This is based on the WHATWG specification for client-side session and persistent storage.
* SVG text: Support for the svg:textpath specification enables SVG text to follow a curve or shape.
* New Windows installer: Based on Nullsoft Scriptable Install System, the new Windows installer resolves many long-standing issues.

Microsoft Rolls Out Red Carpet for Firefox

Microsoft has issued an open invitation to the Mozilla Corp. to bring both its Firefox browser and Thunderbird e-mail application into the Windows fold.

In order to be fully compatible with the open source community, Microsoft is letting businesses and consumers know the forthcoming Vista operating system will support a broad array of software options.

Sam Ramji, director of Microsoft's Open Source Software Lab, made the offer in a posting on the Mozilla development planning Web site, writing that the lab is willing to provide one-on-one support in getting Firefox and Thunderbird to run on the next-generation OS.

Making Room

The welcome mat is being rolled out for Mozilla developers at the Windows Vista Readiness ISV Lab, which has traditionally been open only to commercial software developers.

The lab is a four-day event held in Microsoft's hometown of Redmond, Washington, every week through December and provides office space for four people, hardware, VPN access, and communication with product team developers and support staff, Ramji wrote.

"I'm committed to evolving our thinking beyond commercial companies to include open source projects, so I went to the non-trivial effort of getting slots for non-commercial open source projects," he explained.

The invitation also included a poke at the open source community, as Ramji noted, "I sent this invitation to staff@mozilla.org as well, but in case their spam filters are set to block@microsoft.com e-mail addresses, I'm posting here."

Microsoft's PR Play

There was no immediate response from Mozilla to Microsoft's unorthodox approach. While Microsoft has been at odds with the open source community, the company's recent overture is seen by some industry watchers as a concession that it's no longer a Windows-only world.

"What's unusual about this announcement is that it was done in such a public fashion," said Jupiter Research analyst Joe Wilcox. "Microsoft could very easily contact Mozillla on their own without making such a splash."

Wilcox noted that in setting up its Port 25 site to woo end users and independent software developers, Microsoft realizes that more businesses are now running Linux, Unix, and Mac operating systems, in addition to Windows, and need the platforms to work together.

"The idea is to create a community where people can interact and share their ideas, and to show that Microsoft is willing to cooperate," the analyst said. "They really don't have much to fear from Firefox or Thunderbird, but those are two very strong applications."

Little To Fear

Indeed, Microsoft's Internet Explorer is far and away the most popular Web browser. Firefox version 2.0 is now in beta release, ready to battle with Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7, also now in beta.

And as part of their concerted effort against Microsoft, Real Networks, Google, and Mozilla are now working closely to distribute each other's products. For the next few years at least, when you download RealPlayer's multimedia player, you will also have the opportunity to get the Google Toolbar and the latest Firefox browser. All are available for free.

"Microsoft doesn't have much to lose, and may have much to gain, by reaching out to Mozilla," said Wilcox. "They need as many good applications as they can get to sell their operating systems."

Still, he pointed out that the dig from Ramji regarding spam filters blocking Microsoft e-mail suggests that there is still some bad blood between the company and the open source environment.

Regarding the news article from DoDie: .. Bad blood between Microsoft and open source community because they can't take back the things they said like "open source is like a cancer". MS is obviously just complying with the fair competition laws and they want all the apps that people use to work on Vista so people will upgrade to Vista. Not a big surprise.

Does this version work with Java SE Runtime Environment 6? I heard previous 2.0 releases had problems. I was thinking about using Java SE Runtime Environment 6, if it works with Firefox and Opera. Is anyone using it over JRE 5.0 Update 11? Any advantages or disadvantages? Here's a link to download it. https://sdlc6d.sun.com:443/ECom/EComActionS...F501EF3142736E9

"Resuming your browsing session" YAWN... Opera had that long ago. The others are just catching up.

I think Firefox isn't the best browser , it's slower and more unconvenient than Opera . using Opera , you'll be more protective and faster . Opera show you what it load first . Firefox don't , it only shows you once it has finished loading . Opera is more beautiful and more friendly
So start using Opera and forget Firefox
They're my opinions , what about you ?
