might have been nice to mention that it's barely a beta, more like an alpha build. Official version is still 8.5

Yes,this version of Opera is still in an early alpha stage. It uses a new kind of engine called 'Merlin'.
We compared this version with FireFox 1.5.On a fast connection, the two browsers have the same speed but on a slow connection Merlin is a LOT faster than the mozilla engine.
If you still want a Faster browser then try K-Meleon.It's totally free and Oh Boy! You will be amazed by his speed.

There's no point in fighting between Firefox and Opera. What matters is that you know that there are alternatives available to monopoly browsers. Use whatever suits you the best. Personally I use all 3 browsers extensively, depending on the situation.

I agree with _deXter_ I use the three one intensly and I think they complemente each other. :-)

On dial-up Opera is faster than Firefox, I always have the latest version of both though (but not betas). I believe also that is true that Opera has a smaller footprint, something that I always take into consideration. Whatever..
