Opera v9.01 build 8509 [weekly]

Opera is known as the fastest and smallest full-featured browser, a first choice for people using older PCs and Windows 95 and a brilliant alternative to the default IE from Microsoft. This new version has a chance to actually beat IE hands-down because it has a truckload of new and exciting features. It complies to all the current web-page standards, it has a completely new interface (you can choose from single window and multi-window view), built-in search, a download manager, an advanced mail/news reader, print preview, a huge bookmark collection and much more in a 2Mb free package! Well, the free package also includes banner ads, but Opera is believed to be completely free of spyware, unlike some of its competitors. It’s lightning fast as well as stable and it looks gorgeous. It’s simply perfect! For a complete list of features check out the official website, there’s vastly more to discover.

Changelog:
• Hotmail localization fixed
• Save image as doesn't put it in transfers anymore
• Last used search engine is now remembered
• Using namespace in widgets now works
• Find in page with same search word on newly loaded pages now works
• Search engines now can't be added without a keyword
• Newsfeeds can now be renamed
• Multiple stablity fixes

IE 7 beta 3 is better. This is slow and not compactable browser.

IE is garbage, always was garbage and always will be garbage. It's Microsoft for christ sake. Take .NET Framework for example. It was 5-6 MBs when first released. Now it's like what.. 20..30.. 40 MBs? All security updates thrown in. Microsoft doesn't fix security vulnerabilities on-the-fly like Opera does, so when Opera gains more market share, becomes more of a target for exploits, they won't be taken so seriously/critically, since Opera will have a fix within a day or so. Microsoft waits a week at least for zero-days. Bastards. Opera is the most secure, customizable browser out there.

I have used Opera at work and I dislike it emensely.

As far as IE being better? I don't think so, I think it's that for so long people have been unaware that there were other browser choices out there. And a lot of folks are afraid to do something like that.

I switched from IE to Firefox about 2 years ago and I very rarely do I have to open up IE on this computer (very few things aren't compatable with FF).

Just because Microsoft has been doing it longer doesn't mean they do it best. And from what I understand of IE 7, a lot of the features that have been standard in FF and other browsers for some time are being put into IE.

Microsoft is good, but it sure as hell isn't the be-all end-all.

at the end of the day it all depends on what your used to, myself... i swear by opera, if you dont like opera then its simple dont use it, if you love IE7 so much then y bother saying anything on here..... surely if you hate opera so much then you wouldnt have clicked on the link.

i think you have the urge to download it and install it...... your just scared of using it and never opening IE again.... go on take the plunge, do summit daring for a change give it a go, what you got to lose? lmao ;)

seriously if your used to IE then stick to IE, if firefox rocks your boat then stick to firefox.

hey coolverstukas, if you like microjunk so much why dont you stop hanging out on hack sites and forums and what not like this fine place here. there is obviously nothing here for you. microjunk sucks always has. i cant count how many times i have gotten spyware or viruses from using IE. i cant afford to have my system crash on a weekly basis because they want to know what it is im doing. and if they are so much better why is it they are now using tabbed features and customizeable toolbars like opera and firefox have been using for a couple of years now. microjunk and all there infinate wisdom, or experience as you say, have, are currently, and always will steal the best ideas they have from everyone else.

ie 7 is the gayest pile of horseshit in history, gayer even than ie 6, which is pretty darn gay. unless you like constant security issues, incompatabilities, a massive drain on resources whilst supporting an expolitative, thieving, anti competitive, morally bankrupt outfit like gatescorp.
RE : by maxis on 2006-07-01 11:38:42

Opera has bad download manager and sometimes don't import bookmarks from other brousers. Bbookmarks management and using is uncomfortable. And at last - it eats a lot of memory! FF is my favorite, but it also has many bugs.

Opera is the fastest browser for windows. Maybe the firefox fanboys won't like it but its true.

Re: Opera v9.01 build 8509 [weekly] by kennie on 2006-07-01 20:55:26
The 3 browsers have their pros and cons sites I go to all work with IE. Firefox works just about the same as IE except faster. But their are times FF won't work properly especially the tabs sometimes I would get several separate FF windows open especially when ads do their annoying popups thing. Opera is fine but its very common that it can not handle streaming media becoz a plugin is missing and if you tell it to find one it will not find. So I'm really switching in and out between the 3 of them.

Copy the dlls needed in Plugins directory. Also you can set FireFox to open links that open new windows in a new tab. This option is in Tools - Options - Tabs.

Re: Opera v9.01 build 8509 [weekly] by someguy on 2006-07-05 17:19:48
Guys FireFox kills IE 7!!

Exspecially the looks, speed, plug-ins, and most of all that FireFox is only 4 or 5 mb where as IE 7 is 20 mb for stuff that FF already has!

And theres no WGA crap as well.
