The one coping with the registration of the program!
RE : by jfe on 2006-11-08 04:54:53
Rather unprecise here. I mean opst_ui.dll is old (4.0.964.6926) in the show modules list.
Re: Outpost Firewall Pro 4.0 Build 971/584 by lapin on 2006-11-08 04:48:12
thus it is not a DLL system

I decided to get a fresh copy from agnitum website and it still contains haxdoor, so the question is are they knowly using this or someone on there team infecting there firewall on purpose.
Re: Outpost Firewall Pro 4.0 Build 971/584 by RE-CON on 2006-11-08 19:49:04
I don't have ParetoLogic Anti-spyware 5.0 but I found full Version of XoftSpySE Anti-Spyware 4.22 here:
http://mega-file.net/file.php?file=e11815776e5a2ff29953c0a7ba818151
Filename: XoftSpy.v4.22.20320060930105807.rar
run update after install.
Just test with it...

Explanation By Paranoid2000 by salmonela on 2006-11-08 23:58:10
"Normal DNS lookups are done to find the IP address for a given domain and present no security risk. However malware can exploit DNS in the following ways (in increasing order of sophistication):
  • Sending data to (and receiving it from) port 53 on an attacker-controlled system - this would bypass the vast majority of firewalls that allow DNS by default.
  • Enclosing the data within a valid DNS request (DNS offers options to handle other data including plain text) before sending it to an attacker-controlled system - this would bypass firewalls performing validity or syntax checks on DNS traffic.
  • Enclosing such data within a valid DNS request before sending it to your normal DNS server which would then forward it to the attacker-controlled system (using a feature called "iterative DNS" where a DNS server sends a query to another server - this would require the attacker to set up their own domain with a pointer to their own compromised system). This would be permitted by any global rules settings for DNS however strict - only controlling DNS on a per-application basis would stop this, and only if Windows' DNS Client Service is disabled (monitoring Windows' API calls relating to DNS would remove the need to disable this service, which the latest versions of some firewalls, including Outpost 4.0, do)."

P.S. disable DNS service on your OS , you should then add one more rule (in Outpost) for every new network alowed application :

Protocol: UDP

Remote host: "Your ISP"

Remote port: 53 (dns)

"It is another line of defence."

Of course you will passed DNS detour.

Really ? No compatibility problems anymore with AVAST 4.7.892 ??? Who did the test ?
Re: Outpost Firewall Pro 4.0 Build 971/584 by rEApEAt on 2006-11-09 02:22:42
ParetoLogic Anti-spyware and XoftSpySE Anti-Spyware are from the same vendor and share their database.
RE : by RE-CON on 2006-11-09 03:51:15
Yes I was found and delete this subject. Outpost run stil fine if it really is a active trojan. If it is false alert Ithink its not wrong to delete this founded subject as well as outpost works same as before.

Thanks LAZY

Have the same question. Good thing it works. But I've noticed that Agnitum update in the tools menu is blanked out now. Weird
Re: Outpost Firewall Pro 4.0 Build 971/584 by salmonela on 2006-11-09 09:41:15

i tried comodo, ashampoo, I still go for outpost, outpost pro 2.1 :) because its so stable and does not require lots of resources. AND SURFING WITH IT IS SO CLEAN!!!!Just set it to block most. Memory usage at 740k :) OUTPOST THE POST IS D BEST :)
Re: Outpost Firewall Pro 4.0 Build 971/584 by Farticus on 2006-11-09 21:29:31
That's the same key that was posted before and someone said it doesn't allow you to autoupdate (which i dont care about anyways, because i always update via the exe installer).

What id like to know is, did you fully test it by shutting it down and restarting it again? Did you reboot? Does it go back to trial or show any other odd behavior, like things not working properly?
RE : by FNS on 2006-11-09 21:32:17

i autoupdate with no problem at all ;)

cheers..

From Outpost help: by salmonela on 2006-11-10 06:42:19

Allow most - All network connections are allowed except those that are explicitly blocked by global or application rules.

Rules Wizarddocument.write(PRODUCT)document.write(PRODUCT) - According to this policy, Outpost Firewall Pro displays a prompt each time a new application or process (for which no rules are specified) requests network access or when an application requests a connection that is not covered by its rules. Thus Outpost Firewall Pro lets you decide whether an application should be allowed a network connection to a specific address and port.

Block most - All network connections are blocked except those that are explicitly allowed by global or application rules.

P.S. I allways run in Rules wizard , but I recommend to run it in rules wizard till all rules are created (e.g. prompts are very rare or non) , then switch it to Block most.

Run it in alow most I dont recommend , maybe to my enemies e.g. Mr. Evil , Bush , Road runner , Hitler , Eminem ...etc.

First of all i want to say to( Salmonela) user that a dont now how old are you and if you cut to suck your mama tits and your name is the same with the epidemi of egs salmonela how fany is that stupid moron find another name then first come here and say your opinion because i see that you have for everything a opinion try to find out that outpost firewall have trojan with bater programs that you use.And tell me why spysweeper stops autpost to install and say it has trojan even kaspersky find that out so my conclussion is that a firewall has a trojan is not a firewall bat is an information stiller and the last is that some of the company like outpost make dollars not because they sell the software bat because of some moron like you!!
Re: Outpost Firewall Pro 4.0 Build 971/584 by rEApEAt on 2006-11-12 02:57:57

"Btw, its amazing people still have not learned that using old dlls and exes on the new version is totally dumb. You are just downgrading the program again with old files and whatever updates that were added in the new version will just be nulled, not to mention it could cause the firewall to work eratically/unstable. Stop being noobs already, sheesh."

Can you demonstrate your point in this particular situation?

If you can't, shut up and let others play risky sometimes if they wish.

Re: Outpost Firewall Pro 4.0 Build 971/584 by rEApEAt on 2006-11-12 16:12:09
Nice song! I was there too. =)

I put Outpost on freeze. He is sleeping. That's very cool in Outpost, you can disable it and test other firewalls without trouble.

Look 'n' stop didn't pass on grc.com test. Next.

Comodo is very impressive: it has passed in all tests, and it's free.
Re: Outpost Firewall Pro 4.0 Build 971/584 by dlonra on 2006-11-12 21:15:44
Back to 3.51 !!! After 1st reboot no problem at all. After removing Haxdoor with ParetoLogic (false positive; so why keep it ?) and a 2nd reboot the Engine.dll could not load. Removing is a pain in the ass.

Comodo ... is leaking too !
Re: Outpost Firewall Pro 4.0 Build 971/584 by salmonela on 2006-11-12 23:32:55
Detection of AV , Antispyware... is false positive. Please for which Outpost file you are prompted it is haxdoor positive by ParetoLogic scan?
Re: Outpost Firewall Pro 4.0 Build 971/584 by salmonela on 2006-11-13 07:13:01
Also should be noted that XoftSpy has very suspicious past.

I think that you dont know what "false positive" means , Am I right?
Re: Outpost Firewall Pro 4.0 Build 971/584 by rEApEAt on 2006-11-13 14:19:46
Strange...

I was running Outpost and Paretologic (and, for a short period of tests, XoftSpy) and never had any trouble.

Salmonela, thanks for the link!
