Hi All!
For some mysterious reasons "Offline defrag" has never worked with version 8. I have done everything as told (and as with Diskeeper7) but always "Volume not Dirty, fail to open Defrag32" the same message waits at each and every reboot. Sg is wrong with that module. So I've unistalled Diskeeoer8, and put D7 back -and the latter is working as it always has. What am I doing wrong? I guess I'm bound to uninstall Diskeeper7 first, then install new version(8).
Anybody, with the same issue?

Hi salmonela, I have the same problem as racketeer66 and i'm running Look n' Stop firewall with NOD32 antivirus - any ideas?

I am not familiar with that one but try to disable it on next boot (i presume it has that posibility) to see if problem lies in fw blocking perfect engine:). (If havent that posibility , try to find its service , than disable , reboot)

i've tried disabling both Look n Stop and NOD32 but still same problem - offline defrag with Diskeeper10 works perfectly my guess is that there's a prob with the PD engine

one more thing, if u look on the raxco website, PD8 hasnt officially been released yet, maybe the fix will come with the official version?

I am an official Beta-tester for Outpost. So I run the latest Outpost 4.0 Beta (Outpost Firewall Pro ver. 4.0.941.6824 (579). I disable Self-protection, and try to run.
But PerfectDisk 7 seems OK - pagefile and MFT - defrag works without any problem. The issue might have sg to do with new engine of PD8. For some of us it runs - for others it just won't.:) Also checked BootExecute String in registry (HKLM\System\Control\CurrentControlSet\SessionManager\BootExecute) - seems perfect. So, whta next, My Friends?
I gotta tell U I am 100 % satisfied with PD7 - it's just being restless and striving for novum!:)

I cannot get PD to work since 7.0.46 or new PD v8. When you do a drive analyze PD shows all the drive blocks in black and excludes them from a defrag. I have used Diskeeper and it does not show this problem. Has anyone else run into this problem?

For me it was "sptd", a hidden device used by DAEMON Tools. I just disabled it in the Device Manager and the offline defrag worked.

How did you narrow the conflict down to "sptd"? A person could spend a life time using the hit or miss method.

Yes , device drivers/emulation tools should probably be the first suspected. Boot time is reserved for drivers and kernel.

BTW , racketeer66 your key (which you sent to me) is old and blacklisted , doesent work.
Maybe you have another one?

Thanks, good tip, I started with Windows Services and memory resident programs......it didn't take long to loose patience with the project!

While I never used DAEMON Tools, I do have the hidden service "sptd.sys" on my system. Just disabled it and the off-line defragment works great!

"sptd.sys" is also used by Alcohol 120%. Directions follow if anyone needs them.

1) Right mouse click on “My Computer” and select “Manage”

2) Click on Device Manager

3) Click “View” and then select “Show Hidden Devices”

4) Click “View” and then select “Devices by Connection”

5) Scroll down until you see "sptd"

6) Right mouse click on "sptd" and select “Disable”. Click “Yes” to confirm disabling of this device Windows will prompt you to reboot. Select “Reboot Later”

7) Open Raxco PerfectDisk v.8 and select an “Offline Defragmentation”.

8) Reboot system

9) Perform a boot time defragmentation pass with PerfectDisk

10) After the boot time defrag has completed and Windows has restarted, re-enable sptd by following the above instructions and selecting “Enable”.

6uldmn, u have sorted out my problem! thanx! but, is there a way of getting offline defrag to work without having to turn sptd off all the time?

Actually, 420 figured it out; I just posted the instructions.

As for permanent, not until the 3rd party product’s developer, changes the program or creates a patch. In this case DAEMON Tools and Alcohol 120% both use “sptd.sys”; perhaps all the emulation programs do, so the change will have to come from PerfectDisk.

The problem shouldn’t be that hard for them to resolve, since PerfectDisk 7 did not have this conflict. Perhaps Raxco will leak an early version of PerfectDisk 8 before the official release, so some kindly people from the net can discover problems like this one. :-)

the workstation edition doesnot work properly with Windows 2000 SP4. the boot-time de-frag doesnot work...... just skips.

After I set up finish Perfect Disk 8.0, I can run it. When I run it, appear a windown message : "can't connect to :'name's computer.
