Linux vendor Red Hat announced yesterday the availability of of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL5), the latest version of the company's commercial Linux distribution. Featuring tightly integrated virtualization technology, broader hardware support, and improved interoperability, RHEL5 is the culmination of two years of focused development work undertaken in collaboration with the open source software community. In addition to conventional desktop and server editions, Red Hat plans to offer a small assortment of specialized RHEL5-based solutions designed for datacenters, database servers, and high-performance computing clusters. With the release of RHEL5, Red Hat is also pursuing a significant change in strategy. The Linux vendor plans to launch a new open-source Internet marketplace called Red Hat Exchange (RHX) that will facilitate the deployment of commercial, third-party open-source applications on RHEL installations. Red Hat hopes to become the nexus of open-source services and support by bringing together disparate vendors into a cohesive ecosystem that is conducive to simplified maintenance and support.

The redhat enterprsie edition software itself is free according to license. But you have to pay for their support service and any available updates. So, if you find the iso file, and installed it. it should be legal still.

BTW, the CENTOS use the redhat enterprise edtion binaries. it means the software itself is basiclly the same. However, you can download CENTOS for free and get free CENTOS updates.

lol, stop bein a douche, PCLinuxOS is Mandriva based.... i still dont see the point of having distro releases mentioned here since all you windoze ppl dont know what linux is and its philosophy, you think its just warez to pirate ;) Red het ENTERPRISE Linux is ENTERPRISE, and its a BUSINESS, sure the kernel and userland is free, but updates and support are expensive. I never tried the new RHEL yet so i cant give an opinion on it. PCLinuxOS is very nice i have to say, but wait for the test release 2 to turn into a formal release.

I have CentOS. All programs such as OpenOffice are old versions but stable. I'd tried it but I don't love the name: CentOS. I love Red Hat, the name. And I love Red Hat, the red hat, the logo :) I'am using Fedora now. But I want to have RHEL without support. How? Thanx for all...
