Suse Linux 10.1 final Released
Posted by Anonymous 1295 Day ago, There are 9 comments, 26880 views
SUSE Linux 10.1 has been released. Here the announcement: After lot of work and several delays, we proudly announce the availability of SUSE Linux 10.1. In tribute to 42 and as today is the fifth anniversary of the death of Douglas Adams, we dedicate this release to him.
It can be downloaded as described below and on http://download.openSUSE.org in x86, x86-64, and ppc versions - both via ftp from our mirrors and bittorrent. We'd appreciate if you use bittorrent to share the download with others.

Initially we offer as ISOs the 5 CD open source version plus our add-on CD with proprietary portions, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, RealNetworks RealPlayer, and Sun Java Runtime Environment. DVDs will be available for download from Thursday, May 18.

Additionally two ftp trees are available - one with only open source packages and one with non open source packages. The open source tree contains packages build from more than 3100 source RPMs.

As usual, we ship all the latest open source packages available at the time. But we want to give special mention to Xgl for 3D acceleration on the desktop (http://www.opensuse.org/xgl), NetworkManager for getting painless wifi access everywhere, the completely open source AppArmor 2.0, and the full integration of XEN 3 in YaST.

We'd like to thank you all for testing heavily, reporting bugs, giving feedback on mailing lists, etc., and in general for supporting and participating in creating SUSE Linux 10.1.

Have a lot of fun!

Michael, Adrian and Andreas

P.S.: Here're all the details for downloading:

SUSE Linux 10.1 is offered via bittorrent and via normal download. Please use a mirror or the download.opensuse.org URL which directs you to a mirror.

The distribution comes with 5 CDs. You need:
* CD1 only for a minimal text installation (English)
* CDs 1-3 for a default KDE or GNOME installation in German or English
* All 5 CDs for other selections

We have put delta ISOs from both RC1 and RC3 on the server, please check any mirror for details, we're not listing them below.

Can someone please give me some advice?

First of all...
I'm not really sure which one to download. I would like to install Linux operating system on my PC. 32bit.

Secondly...
How does this work? I have never installed and configured Linux before. Is this a full Linux operating system?

Thanks for all comments. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Best,
Contrid

Stick with SuSE Linux, it's bombay! Stable, reliable, nice GUI and fast... it's catching up to Redhat in popularity and rightfully so! SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE RULEZ!

I would love to see a news story stick to it's original story.

I to like pclinuxos, yet if I wan't to talk about it, I mean rip there front page. I would start my own story.

"Tell me why PCLinuxOS is better than either Knoppix or Ubuntu?" All three have live cd's make-up your own mind.
