beta versions of ubuntu aren't all that useful, since you'd be downloading a lot more stuff to get it working, and inevitably spending time on IRC and reading the forums to get it working properly.

in that respect it is just like the regular feisty fawn version, 7.04, in that it will need maintenance from time to time, but if your desktop works, you can ignore it.

that said, if it doesn't phase you to spend 30 hrs /week simply getting one thing on your pc to work, well, beta's are for you!

try sabayon linux or gentoo if you want bleeding edge updates, long compile times, and all that compiz/beryl 3D wobbling for your desktop, plus the 30 hrs/week pure techy downtime that comes with figuring out how linux does the little things that you're used to doing.

About beryl , for those who know it , its just an eye candy , u can run it if u have nvidia , if u have ati , u'll have alot of Headaches ..

one more thing i hate about linux is the updates ,hell ! microsoft released two major updates for windows since 2001 , ubuntu had 4 releases if not more in 2 years ... where XP is more Secure than linux and OS X ... ( its not me who says that .. just google it ... ) ..

Sorry fellas but it seems that somebody is so DUMP that can't even run the system. This f**kin guy Nadeem97 deserves a painful death. If he is smart as he's saying, why he can't even make a game run in Linux? Maybe his brain is so MicroF*cked and Bill is f*ng his wife (or girlfriend) that he can't think about reason. I run ALMOST all games in Linux here (NFS Underground, Doom 3, for example) and i have no problem. But certainly he have. Kill this guy and make this place clean again.

i myself never use linux or anythings else other than Windows. But i want to try linux. i have no clue how it work. can someone explain it? does it need driver? how to install it and stuff like that. or can u give me a good site that tell about stuff like this?

it's open source, everybody made contributions in it, and if one does, he's probably making things right or getting it worst, who knows... but nevertheless, linux's a great effort to support people (like me) who DONT want to pay microsoft for it's softwares (or any others..). the bottomline is IT'S FREE AND LEGALLY FREE!! (although many others could be "freed" too, well, at least linux was born FREE)
