Jokes aside here is a way to get by the Validation check
This comes in handy especially when you are just tring to download from the site and not using the Windows update feature.(It also works for that as well though).
ALL CREDIT goes to "Sinhack" for this method
Procedure...
It took basically 5 minutes to figure out how to bypass this check. However, Microsoft can change their server part of the check in order to block this.
Here's the procedure as it works (26 August 2005)
1. First before you do anything else Open internet options/click on & open "Programs"/ click & open "manage Add-ons"/ click on the drop down that says "Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer"and or "Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer"/ Find and Disable the entry for the "Windows Genuine advantage Validation tool" to block the ActiveX execution.
2. Go to the Windows site and try to use Windows update or just try to download a tool or file and it will check and find that the Active X has been dissabled. You will then be given the opportunity to Choose the "Alternate method" and you can download the "GenuineCheck.exe"file.
3. when you have downloaded the "GenuineCheck.exe file" Right-click this executable and go the "compatibilty tab"
4. Set the "compatibily mode to Windows 2000"
5. Run "GenuineCheck.exe" and it will contact the Microsoft Download site and then sends you back a "7 digit code".
6. Paste the code returned in the "verification Box" .
7. off you go...next....
