RAR is a general purpose archiving and compression program competing with/replacing programs such as PKZip, ARJ, and others. RAR offers significantly improved compression ratios, easier use and a cheaper price as well as supporting long file names, disk spanning, and self-extracting file creation.Whats new :
1. Fixed a bug in GZIP module. Previous beta versions could
report CRC errors, when testing correct GZIP archives.
2. Switch -st renamed to -si to avoid conflicts with RAR 2.50
-std switch. Though -std is obsolete, some software may
still use it to call RAR.
3. WinRAR shell extension could create SFX archives with
double “.exe.exe” extension.
