for music it's not supposed to be outputing to all 5 speakers. and
music is supposed to be played only on stero. 5.1 is usually refered to
theatre modes for films or presentations

Winamp is only an obsolete piece of software full of bugs that sùçs my còçk!
I-tune is good
iTunes is a steaming pile of cow shat. It doesn't even support OGG Vorbis, nor does is have any of the plugins. iTunes also has terrible GUI...
Winamp has always worked fine for me, and I don't notice these bugs you speak of. iTunes on the other hand is loaded with them.
I rip all my cd's, and perfer downloading music in OGG vorbis format, and Winamp supports it by default. There isn't even a plugin that will work for iTunes without hanging for 15 min. Huge lack in plugin support for iTunes.
poffarbacco, have you tried Winamp? You don't know what you are talking about. Hint: If you exchange the words I-tune and Winamp in your comment it begins to make sense.

as said, this is mostly intended for videos.
i have a 7.1 sound system and all speakers (+ subwoofer) output music.
you just need to get the correct drivers from your manufacter.

Hi
Choose DirectSound Output in Output Plugins, click configure and mark
"Allow Hardware Acceleration". If your windows is configured to 5.1 (or 7.1)
speakers correctly, it´s work.
what is sourround by Juanet on 2005-09-02 07:10:04
I don't see any sourround 5.1! in this program. Please let me know if I am wrong! Do you know what 5.1 sourround is? (there exist also 7.1). Means 6 channels of music, each different! (5+1=6) and estreo is 2 channels only. If you have 6 speakers and listening all of them in stereo, this is not sourround!! (sorry by my english , i actually speak spanish and other) The only program (let say the better one) that can play 5.1 (on a computer and depending of your sound card) and this is also called DTS-CD music, is VLC player (videolan) version 0.8.1 (0.8.2 doesn't play DTS any more!!, don"t be fooled!). And you do need to have a dts-cd file. Actually sourround, dts, dolby, comes from sound of DVD movies. Another prog that could play that is WinDVD. All this depends if you have a dts wave, an image, dvd music, etc. but VLC plays everything!.

I repeat again:
WINAMP IS AN OBSOLETE PROGRAM, OLD STYLE.
The best for music is Apple I-Tune with its MP4 and for all is JetAudio Plus from korea for all multimedia file types.
