Windows Anti-Spyware development to be dropped?
Posted by POPSiTE 1578 Day ago, There are 26 comments, 9820 views
Recently, Neowin has acquired some insider information stemming from a Windows One Care (WOC) beta chat. Below is a snippet of a question asked by a user:
User:
Will Anti-spyware survive as a separate app once Windows One Care (WOC) is released?

(Ms Expert Name): Your MS antispwyare beta has an expiration date, beyond which it will no longer be supported. WOC does have plans to integrate Antispyware in the future

What this means, is that its very likely that the development of the current Microsoft antispyware program will be dropped until it becomes integrated into Windows One Care. Due to the fact that Windows One Care will be subscription based, the Microsoft antispyware tool will no longer be free. Users will be required to pay annually to use Microsoft's Anti-Spyware tool along with some other Helpful Windows tools.

Wow look, 9down is taking credit for an article that wasnt an exclusive to them! This was seen on winbeta, and neowin 8 hours prior to it being on 9down. So please, stop taking credit for something you didnt find.

Also, I love watching all the people whine about MS possibly charging for a product. What do you really care, all of the users on this site are just going to pirate it anyways, so please stop acting like your so damn upset. There isnt ANY OFFICIAL WORD that this will be dropped, if many of you dont remember, gates said this would be provided for free to all legitimate windows xp users. So before you get your pirating panties in a twist, wait for confirmation and dont jump to conclusions

They quoted the 'source' of every pieces of news. IMO this is fair enough and is following the netique.   And I don't find any 'credit' that 9down wants from the user?!

One Care, lol, more like Who Cares, they can't even protect their own servers what makes you think they are any better at protecting yours.
RE : by Metshrine on 2005-08-11 21:59:48
Where do you get this info? Where in the media has MS shown that their servers have been hacked? Please post evidence to support your claims. I await your reply, and expect something childish.

For anyone that actually pays (no pun intended. heh) attention, the fact that M$' Anti-Spyware isn't always going to be free is nothing new and has been known for a long time.

The integration into WOC is the only news here.

Actually it was posted here about a month ago that this was going to happen, and be implimented into their one-care package along with antivirus.

They must be joking though to pay an anual fee. It should be part of Windows standard...  although if it was, i'd still shut it off like I do Windows firewall, automatic updates, and antivirus monitoring. The whole security center is garbage.

Yet *nix still manages to build it all in the code quietly without making a fuss...  or making money on it.

So their anti-spyware isn't going to be free forever? So what. I have Ad-aware, SpyBot and others. So they integrate it into the OS? So what. I dont care about Microsoft Vista because I run Windows 2000. The thing that pi$$es me off is that they have gone out of their way to purchase a product and possibly integrate it into their OS to fix some flaws WHICH THEY MADE THEMSELVES through a braindead security disaster that ActiveX is. Instead of bloating the OS with programs and "features" like that just FIX THE FOOKING CODE ALLREADY! I Would gladly pay for a super-stable fixed up version of Windows 2000, but of course that is never going to happen because Microsoft assumes that their customers are stupid (and most are) so they keep making the programs pretty and userfriendly. Give me stablility and manageability (is that a word?) and I am happy. Sorry for the rant. It's early in the morning and I am tired.
