Quickly following the few days old leak of an internal 8.5 build, Microsoft is officially releasing the beta version to the masses. No need to download it from shady locations any longer! It is exactly the same version (8.5.1235.0517). In addition to the brand new and Aero-supporting user interface we've showed you in earlier screenshots, LiveSide reports another novelty in this version: the integration of Windows Live OneCare Family Safety which allows parental control over signing in and adding new contacts. Log into OneCare Family Safety, click "Edit Settings" and scroll to the bottom for the Allowed applications (Beta) section. Of course, Mess Patch is in the works for brutal Windows Live Messenger 8.5 modification.

good! it's in english. unlike the first one its in spanish only and you need to modify some .dll!

this is not compatible with the latest messenger plus! i've tried it! it didnt work.
it actually does kind of... but only script and external features.. none of the / switches and the icon panel doesn't work, custom nicknames..... etc.. all broken...

there is no big differency in comparision to the previous 8.1
frankly speaking i did not like this new version.

there is no windows live mail desktop beta 8.5 and there never will be.
Mail Desktop, has been replaced with the less functional Windows Live Mail (12.x)

For WLM in PT-BR:
Copy and paste msglang.dll from 8.1 repertory to 8.5 repertory.
Attention:
The new WLM directory is : C:\ Arquivos de programas \ Windows Live \ Messenger

Translating WLM 8.5 beta in PT-BR:
1)Copy the 8.1 c:\Arquivos de Programas\MSN Messenger\msgslang.8.1.xxxx.xxxx.dll to another folder;
2)Rename-it to msgslang.8.5.1235.0517.dll;
3)Uninstall WLM 8.1 PT-BR;
3)Install WLM 8.5 beta en-us;
4)Overwrite the msgslang.8.5.1235.0517.dll on C:\Arquivos de Programas\Windows Live\Messenger
5)Install MSG Plus Live 4.22.274 (www.msgpluslive.com.br) for addons;
Worked perfect here (Windows Vista Ultimate x32).

man i got a problem with the installers from this beta version, i installed the spanish version once but i already unistalled it.
Now i can't run any installtion anymore cause they don't work here anymore.
When i press accept in the installation it just closes down...
Anyone else experiencing this problem?
Can someone maybe send me zipped file op the windows live folder? (plz not rapidshare)

I had this problem, and fixed it by going to
\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
Deleting: WLInstaller and WindowsLiveInstaller folders
After that, the installer seemed to work fine.
