I didn't have the validation error but when I try to execute Windows Media Player appears the error:

"The file wmplayer.exe has a version number off 11.0.5358.4826 where 10.0.0.3646 was expected.

Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled. 

Do you want  to install the Player from the Microsoft Web site?"

I already extracted the wmp11.exe and I copied the wmplayer.exe in the WMP folder but i still get the error message...Anyone got this problem too? 

note:if u get this error.run "wmfdist11.exe".it worked perfectrly after i ran this,

I downloaded it from Fluxiontech.com (file.torrent) and extracted it but I don't know where wmp11.exe and wmfdist11.exe were although searched it in my computer

I runned the wmp11.exe another time (after all the original instrucions), and started the MP11 right after (without restarting).

I'm using it now. Already restarted the system, and indeed it's working.

After the message error I reinstalled with wmp11.exe and without restarting and now it's working :)

First, I did it like it is written on the top. But it won't work. At the same time I was downloading the Torrent File, extracted the mplayersetup.exe again, run wmp11.exe and after this it started working. How do you want to begin? ... :)

aslong as u run the the other 3 exes b4 u run the shortcut,it should work.

When you installed WMP11, must connect internet. It check version and you can run it. Good fun.

Hey Spidey1790....Great Post. I don't know what is happening for user's. For your post I just downloaded and extracted with winrar, installed and let it fone home. Done, Complete, Nothing else, Nada, no restart, no instructions needed. Thanx again for the rapidshare post.

At first it didnt work straight away for me, but I got it working and I have to say I love it, already know how to use it :D.

Just follow the instructions and it will work, if not I will post how I install it if anyone wants to know.

Hey... you can open file with winRar archive and select wmp11.exe and install it without windows Validating.  remembre you must run:
1) WMP11.exe
2) wmfdist11.exe
3) wmdbexport.exe
4) umdf.exe

to complete setup.          thanx.

umm i just ran mpsetup.exe and it installed  no problems? is this bad should i uninstall and do it the other way?

You can get the playlist back (or at least I can) by clicking on the large rectangular LIBRARY button (I have my player in classic menu mode - but that part may not be relevant.)

This is my first comment on this great site.
I used the method described here to set it up, it didn't work and gave me an error message that the player exe file was an unexpected version newer that the one needed. I then extracted the wmp11.exe it gave me some more files and a folder named update. I used the update.exe and here I am using the wmp 11.

Try it it maybe some kind of help.

Hey guys where do I find "Advanced Tag Editor" which was there in wmp10.
Also I find many features missing from this version like when I right click on a song it has got very less options than wmp10 & also I get a blank playlist when I close & again open the wmp11.

Can anybody HELP me out???

few issues so far

1. Advanced Tag Editor now moved to the Library, not as friendly as previous version
2. some mp3 files are unable to play with meaningless error message
3. Tag editor in Advanced Tag Editor is not usable. Lyrics are not saved at all!

LOL, you are going to be kidding mate. WMP will NEVER play Real Player or QuickTime and if that is true, WMP project manager will be fired by Bill Gate  immediately by supporting his competitor's products which they manage to beat.

for people who still have no idea of how to extract files from a self-extract exe file.

*WinRAR must be installed on your system.

You may just rename the *.exe file (ie. mpsetup.exe) to *.zip or *.rar (ie. rename to mpsetup.rar). then click the file. Is that simple enough?

Ok so what about us on service pack 1 who dont want sp2? Do we just stick with 10 or wait to see if an updated 11 comes out for sp1?

Interesting experience. I mean reading all these complicated instructions and wading through the confusion.

I have a legal activated and validated copy of WinXP with SP2 and so I just thought I would just try an earlier suggestion that one simply run the downloaded file .... that is ....  run  "mpsetup.exe".

MP 11 installed perfectly and without fanfare. Install let me select options and MP11 is currently playing everything I throw at it just fine. No reboots were required or requested during installation ... I had to do none of that dancing around with additional extractions or multiple file executions intermixed with re-boots ... none of that BS.

I won't pretend all my software is legal, but if ever there was an argument for at least legalizing your basic operating system ... well, experiences like this might be that argument.

I have found that I did have to make Per Application exclusion for WMP11 in Windows Blinds 5 to get all the menus to view correctly.

Hope this is helpful to those with a legal copy of WinXP SP2.

This Version is COOL!!!, One thing is that in the beginning if you don't extract the "mpsetup" file, you will get errors or else something like this:

Unsupported Operating System.

Please visit Windows UPDATE to download the Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 before installing Windows Media Player 11.

My Opinion --> YOU DON"T NEED NO DAMN UPDATE.

Just follow the steps...

1) extract
2) run "wmfdist11.exe"
3) restart (You Must Restart in order to refreshen up the procedure and your system.)
4) run "wmp11.exe"
5) run the wmpWindowsMediaPlayer -shortcut (click on Start [all programs] should be listed.
6) Complete


Guide:

For the EXTRACTION process you need WinRar
to Extract.

Then, once extracted you start with STEP 2


In the end, YOU don't need no damn Rollup 2 Update for Windows XP Media Center 2005.

i tried doing what's in the instructions to avoid the WGA but i didnt' get any of the files listed after i extracted the installation folder.
i did get this file (mpsetup.exe) but i can't find the (wmp11.exe)

Windows Media 11 is a nice program, just came across two problems with using it.

1) If you try to view any video on line, it tells you "no windows media found".

2) Can't UNINSTALL it! I tryed to go back to Windows Media 10 so I can view the videos on line, and can't uninstall.......

If you try to install back Windows Media 10, it wouldn't let you.

Any ideas??

You can't uninstall using your normal add/remove programs because it doesn't show up on the list.

Luckily im using your uninstaller which found the media player 11 uninstaller and did a perfect rollback on the player back to the original version 10.

if someone knows how to uninstall without using a uninstaller software by all means please do post it up.

I used the 2nd trick and it worked like a charm!If the first method does not work.It will try to re-direct you to the microsoft website to download version 10.So if you use the second method all is well.It will still try to connect to the internet to verify.If you use a good firewall then all is well....

Found this on the net.  Thought it might help tho I haven't tried it here, I'm still happily using it.

To roll back from Windows Media Player 10 to a previous version, do the following:

• In Control Panel (Category View), click Add or Remove Programs.
• Click Remove a program

Now do one of the following: If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2, select the Show updates check box (at the top of the list), click Windows Media Player 10 (in the Windows Updates section), and then click Change/Remove.If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 1 or earlier, click Windows Media Player 10, and then click Change/Remove.

Thx for that last post. You kick @ss. My prob was that after I install it the winrar way I couldn't get rid of it. It wouldn't rollback. After I installed it the right way the rollback worked, unlike this new version of WMP. It kept crashing on me. You guys make downloading media player 11 hard. All you have to do is open the windows media player 11 file up with winrar and run "wmfdist11.exe" and "wmp11.exe" and after you run those two run the setup_wm.exe to complete the installation.

If you try to run the setup_wm.exe and it stills try to validate the windows media player 11 then just go to your windows media player icon and click on it or the shortcut and it will be Windows media player 11.
