The file is different than the one I downloaded. However, when I run WMP11 and ask it to check for updates it says that I'm running the latest version.

The Damn progie won't install. Keep getting error messages, even though I have a Validated copy of WinXP.

if you want to install the update without validate the copy ,you only open the executable with winrar and execute the archive "wmp11.exe" and directly install the update

i don't see any update .. !!
i've installed media player when it was released, i mean on 1st of november, and it's version is 11.0.5721.5145 .. !! so, the latest ..
i have no idea why Microsoft has updated the release of windows media player, because there is no updated version ..

Just check the file checksum and you will notice the different.

If I didn't remember wrongly, the first release doesn't support XP 'N' editions.

this update is only for 64bit only the 64 bit version is new the 32 bit ver is the same

I've patched XP SP2 with 1.5.716. After the installation of the WMP 11 ( i tryed the 9down.com patched version also ) the madiaplayer doesn't open. Maybe there is sme clash between 10 and 11 versions? Could somebody help please ?

try removige everithing that has to do with Windows Media, like Windows Media Player and then Windows Media Format from Add or Remove programs in Control Pannel and then reboot.

You don't have to unpack it... just execute wmp11_EN_x86.exe, if this is what you downloaded!
It's already patched... so it will feel like the genuine installer!

If it still doesn't work... reply again to search more for the problem!

It's exactly what i did - i executed the wmp11_EN_x86.exe ( i did it several times ) but when i'm trying to open wmp - it i "flying " somewhere to the upper corner of display.

Can you right click on it's task bar button? If you can't this means it's in skin mode and something went wrong... try pressing CTRL + 1 to return to full mode...

Yes I can transfer it by right click from full to skin mode but that's all what i can.

NO, the only way i can play smth is only in skin (task bar ) mode, in the full mode i could only hear sound .

When it starts it's going directly down and seen like taskbar window of IE, for instance. When i'm trying to open it, to maximize - it doesn't open. Theonly thing that i could do is to transform it is to change it to taskbar mode by clicking in taskbar. Also in taskbar mode i played videofiles ( avi). When i tried to resize - to maximize - it didn't succeed. Theonly thing that I got was hearing of the sound without vision ( it was in the first position when it looks like task bar window of mediaplayer.

I do agree, that ppl should not spam with "fast" rapishare aka crapidshare, if link allredy exists on free serv of manufacturer. So admin at 9down should do sometnig about it.. some cleaning up.

I still believe that if you want this place to be nice you have to shout from time to time at those that post junk deliberately!

@trolly I just uninstalled wmp11 and reinstalled it... I first removed it from Add/Remove Prog., rebooted and then I run the installation of wmp11...
It installed and it works ok... I don't know what to say. If you can roll back to version 10 or 9 and use one of them without any problems I suggest you do that. Besides 11 still has anoying bugs and for you it doesn't run! Hope future updates will fix those problems...
Anyway... if you have some time and free space on your HDD, try to install a temporary fresh copy of Windows on a different partition and install 11 there. If it still doesn't run at least you tried... sometimes m'zoft can be a pain...

@damker... you have to follow some complicated steps and you'll need some speciality software... but if you want I could help you through those steps, this way you'll also learn something!
