IF you use a pirated Windows Operating System and download new updates and drivers from the Microsoft download centre, you may be in for a surprise from July 26. In a global initiative aimed at nudging users to shift to genuine Windows software, Microsoft will kick off its Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program from July 26. Security, updates, however, will continue to go out to all, even those using pirated copies.Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)
The Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool enables you to verify that your copy of Microsoft Windows is genuine. The tool validates your Windows installation by checking Windows Product Identification and Product Activation status. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.

Does that mean we will no longer be able to use Windows to download
pirated copies of Windows and other software before we can
validate the copy of Windows we are running?

When Windows Vista is released and when it goes down to like $150 price range then I'll buy it to prevent surprises like this one. =)
No, it isn't. If you go to Windows Update and choose "Express"
you'll be forced to validate, unless you really lucked out with your
pirated version. I am fairly certain that the "Custom" tab just
doesn't display a number of updates if you haven't validated, even
though it does seem to let you through.

Hey guys as another friend mentioned from before i went to Internet Explorer-> Tools-> Manage Add-Ons. From there IF you have downloaded the genuine tool the first thing you must do is to disable it and then if you want you may use your browser normally.
You will be able to make the necessary updates.
But something else that i have done was to go to System32 and find the file "LegitCheckControl.dll" and then delete it.
After the deletion even enabling the add-on function Windows Updates Page will ask you to download it again (0 kbytes). So the reason that we have done it like that is to feel more secure not that with the first part of the "trick" we will not be covered...
I think guys it's time for us to start migrating more officially to UNIX or UNIX-like environments :)
Long Live FreeBSD.
Take Care

With pirated copies of Windows, you will still be able to get the security updates...... just not simple software updates like Media Player, Outlook, and NETframework.
There are always other alternatives for that software. So why complain!?
Also I think it's fine what Microsoft is doing. After all, it's their software. And I think people are idiots anyway for pirating their base of operations... or foundation so to speak.

For those who have been unable to get past MS' annoying little validation check.
Search for the file LegitCheckControl.dll in your Windows/System32 folder. Once found, open it up with a hex editor and change the entry at address @0002BE98h: from 8B 45 D8 to 33 C0 90, and you should now be able to bypass the validation and go directly to the download center.
@0002BE98h:
8B45D8 --> 33C090
This may not be a permanent fix, but for now its worked on all the computers I've tested it on so far.
It worked in my computer for half day and I just find out it didn't work any more. It even not telling you whats wrong, the scanning bar just keep going endless. So you may have to figure out new methods.

Do not try (napster) Windows XP / 2003 PID Changer or backup your registry first.

does anyone know a way to change a the cd key/product key in XP w/ SP2 installed.
I have tried all the ways posted on the net, but they only change it for that instance. Once you log out/log back in or reboot the computer, it reverts it back to the original key again
