Yeah, it uses Kaspersky engine. Now you doubt Kaspersky is the best?
Re: ZoneAlarm Security Suite 7.0.262.000 Beta by Fox-htv on 2006-11-22 04:50:40
@420
What do you mean Kaspersky built in? How can that be, is there some sort of merger going on or what?

ps, please could someone tell me , is Windows defender just an anti-spyware thing or is it supposed to catch viruses too? I ask because there are all these hints that it also stops "potentially unwanted software".

Sure I can just go check, but Bill is always so vague and I know some of you guys here are real brainiacs! ;-)
RE : by jonnyfartypants on 2006-11-22 06:40:26

Kaspersky allow over 25 other Anti-Malware companies to use older versions of their scanning engines under license.

F-Secure and BitDefender are probably the 2 best known companies that use older Kaspersky engines as their primary scanning module and it looks like Zonelabs is jumping on the bandwagon too.

Windows Defender is designed as an Anti-Spyware program but because the line between Virus and Spyware is often blurred it will probably pick out some Viruses too.

Re: ZoneAlarm Security Suite 7.0.262.000 Beta by 420 on 2006-11-22 05:05:10
As far as I know, ZoneLabs and Kaspersky are staying separate companies so there is no merger. ZoneLabs is only licensing KAV's technology under contract...

Anyway, I was wondering something...
See, I use KAV and I only use it to do manual scans...I don't use the protection feature. Also, I use ZoneAlarm ONLY for things like not allowing access to certain programs (Alcohol 120%, etc.). I don't care for the firewall feature of ZoneAlarm because I have a hardware firewall so ZA doesn't do anything for me in that department.
Now, I'm wondering whether I should uninstall ZoneAlarm and install the whole "Kaspersky Internet Security" package so I can have an all-in-one solution. Does KIS have a feature like ZA where it pops up with a warning when any programs want to access the internet?

Re: ZoneAlarm Security Suite 7.0.262.000 Beta by DanesDK on 2006-11-22 05:51:16
@ LordNykon.. There is nothing really new to this.

1. A new trayIcon
2. Interface are the same, just some new colors/icons.

..Other than that, its the same.. The way that you brows through the menu's, is also still the same.
RE : by LordNykon on 2006-11-22 06:38:17

Re: ZoneAlarm Security Suite 7.0.262.000 Beta by Eleeter on 2006-11-22 11:00:52
Vista not supported. Dammit to HELL!!

I'll try it out on my XP box.
RE : by 420 on 2006-11-22 11:50:51
Try Kaspersky Internet Security instead. It works with Vista! I've been using ZoneAlarm for a long, long time and I made the switch today. I must say that KIS is a lot more advanced than ZA so it may take some time to get used to...but it's better in the long run. So far, I'm loving it!

@ LordNykon... The TrayIcon is almost the same. You still get that red/gren, when there is activity. But when no activity, its now a like a grey "Z", insted of that "ZA".. If you know what i mean.

This new Zone Alarm sucks.

When I browse the net with Firefox, the whole net suddenly stops. ZA is most probably preventing Firefox from accessing the net, and browser suddenly stucks. You have to close it with Task Manager.

WHAT A STUPID PIECE OF SOFTWARE!!!!!!!!

DO NOT INSTALL IT!!!!!!!
RE : by LordNykon on 2006-11-26 00:09:06
