After almost of two months of intensive development and testing, a new version of jv16 PowerTools 2005 is finaly released.

The new version contains a lot of new features, small improvements and bug fixes.

The list of the main changes is the following:

Download:
http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/jv16pt_setup_hb.exe

- Added a new tool called Software Manager which combines the features of the Registry Manager's Installed Software list and the Add/Remove list. The Software Manager also contains the so called Custom Remove Software feature which was present in the jv16 PowerTools 1.4.1

- Added a new tool called File Organizer allows you to organize hundreds of files to their own subdirectories.

- Enhanced the Duplicate Finder in a way it can now also search for semi-duplicate files. You can define if you wish to find files with 100% identical contents as before, but also files with for example 90% identical contents. This feature was designed for finding duplicate files from movie, picture or music collections where the contents might not always be 100% identical.

- Added a feature called Preference Saving to Registry Cleaner, Registry Finder, Registry Find and Replace, File Finder, File Cleaner and Duplicate Finder. The feature allows you to save your current settings and later quickly load them back, this helps you if you are doing many similar searches e.g. with the File Finder in a row.

- The age and comment systems are now back in the jv16 PowerTools. The age system allows you to easily see which items have been added since you last used the program, the comment system allows you to write comments on each item.

- Added support for registry key abbreviation. If you want, you can see the registry paths of e.g. the Registry Cleaner in their full form (e.g. "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindows") in a compact form (e.g. "HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindows") or in a short form (e.g. "HKCUSoftMSoftWin".

- All the main windows are now resizable

- Added new simpler ways to remove files with the Automation Tool

- Improved the text wrapping of the Main Window and its hints

- Fixed a bug that could have caused the product to prompt for updating of the file cache every time you started the program

- Fixed many memory leak problems, most in the Artificial Intelligence engine

- Fixed a performance issue from the File Tool. It extracted the required information (e.g. the file dates or checksums) all over again for the same files, now it only extracts the required information once per file. This issue could have caused problems only if you were working with very large files.

- Fixed a rather large bug from the File Cleaner which caused it not to find all the files the users wanted it to find. The problem affected only the finding of Unneeded files, all the other parts of the tool were working correctly.

- Fixed a bug from the File Tool that caused it to calculate incorrect MD5 checksums. The calculated MD5 checksums were in fact CRC-32 checksums. The SHA1 calculations worked correctly.

The updated version also contains tens of other bug fixes, none of the found bugs were critical (as of causing damage to the system) but some of the bugs could cause the product to crash and hang. Therefore updating to the new version is highly recommended.

You can install the new version over any old version of jv16 PowerTools 2005. Please uninstall the old version first, or install the new version to a new directory if you are currently using jv16 PowerTools 1.4.1.

The new version's version number is 1.5.1.299. After downloading and installing the new version, please open the Help > About window to verify you are running the latest version. Some browsers tend to cache the installation file and therefore you might not receive the latest version but the same old version you have previously downloaded.

The updated version is, of course, free for the license owners of jv16 PowerTools 2005. License owners of jv16 PowerTools 1.4.1 can purchase an upgrade license to the new version with a discounted price of $5.95 from here.

That one who has told that trojan was included or virus in rar file is wrong. There is nothing in.

The File posted by Gag did indeed contain a trojan. My antivirus software detected it straight away and deleted it. Why would i post a comment
saying that something is infected with a trojan/virus if it isn't?
If we're here to help each other i think it's only fair to let people know of any viruses/trojans that may
cause problems to their systems.

@Unbekannt,

KAV is a crap compare to NOD32 ( btw, i'm Russian, so i'm kinda supposed to defend the Russian prog ).
Pls, study the VB !

Ewido is the best antitrojan prog ever.

FYI, i've got AdAware, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster and
I had tested the crk provided by gag long before your comments appeared here, before opening the file and after the installation etc.
Otherwise I'd have never posted a word for or against some1's POV here.
As I said earlier, NOTHING was found there.

I'm here for the truth, not to defend some1 or some1's patch.
Cheers !

McAfee Virus Scan 9.1 found no problems with the Gag files. I think that that some scanners have made a false virus detection, though I cannot be certain. I appreciate the warnings in any case. Better safe than sorry.

THANKS A LOT GAG!

Yes, thanks a lot. I didn't have those virii in my collection! Now if you have more such virii/trojans, could you please pass them on? My collection is just a few 100 away from the 10,000th mark!

Man, these days its sooo difficult to get hold of some good virii- thanks to the blatant burst of A/V softwares.. All we get these days are lame spyware.. I still remember the good ol' days of the boot sector virii- man.. those things were and still are works of pure genius.

Btw, gag dude, please DO try to reduce the size of the package, I mean, cmon! 2.8 MB??? I fit my ENTIRE jv16 package in just 700kb! The essense of a virus/trojan is in small sizes, keeping it a few kb or even a few bytes.. I know that its broadband age and all, but still dude, no virus is gonna be sucessfull if its MBs in size!
RE : by _deXter_ on 2005-07-12 02:41:07
PS: Btw, I still didn't analyze gag's files yet, so I can't confirm whether they really ARE virii or not. Actually many people use bundlers and packers before finalizing their .exe; Since some popular trojans / virii also use similar or the same method of packing/crypting, MANY A/Vs detect them as their virii counterparts. I know this personally as I used to face the same problem with some of my early releases. I later changed the crypting/packing algo and most A/v dont detect my stuff as virii anymore.
