Microsoft has opened up the beta testing of its OneCare Live anti-virus subscription software to the public.
The company is also beta testing an anti-spyware product. With Windows XP already featuring a bundled personal firewall, Microsoft will soon be able to offer a full range of basic security products.
The OneCare product has been in beta since spring and Microsoft has now extended the testing to anyone with a US English version of Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
Those using the service will get automatic anti-virus software updates direct from Microsoft, in the same way other users get them from the likes of Symantec, McAfee and Trend

Diskeeper is an automatic disk defragmenter that features scheduling and a high level of configuration ability, and can defragment even critical system files. Fragmentation occurs during normal Windows operation, as files are broken up in pieces and saved on different parts of the hard disk. By now most of you should be aware that build 566 has been released and is being automatically updated for everyone on the beta. If you are using build 562 you are also aware of a bug with the automatic update where it continually asks you to updated but you are still left with build 562. Here is the work-around:
1. Uninstall build 562 by going to Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs and removing "Messenger Beta"2. After uninstalling it may appear that you still have Messenger installed, if that is the case try signing in and let the automatic update kick in. Proceed with the automatic update and install. Diskeeper is a program designed to replace the standard Windows defrag application. As anyone who knows a thing or two about computers will tell you, defragging your disk is essential. Over time you write a lot of 'stuff' on to your computers' hard drive. Windows does it's best to put a file into a single sector of the hard disk, but sometimes this is just not possible.
