"I'm glad to announce the third alpha release of our 10.2 product. It's the first time that we're call our distribution "openSUSE" instead of "SUSE Linux". The codename of openSUSE 10.2 is "Basilisk Lizard". With the rename of the distribution, we renamed also the name in bugzilla.novell.com so that you have to report bugs against "openSUSE 10.2".
Compared with Alpha2, we've made a number of significant changes:
* We switched to kernel 2.6.18rc4 - and neither all kernel module packages (kmp) nor the Xen packages have been adopted for the new kernel.
* openSUSE 10.2 contains KDE 3.5.4
* We started the switch

Beta6 has still some rough edges and I will not advise to put it on production systems. For now let me just point out the following issues:
* The CD 1 needs to remain in the cd drive after installing from it. Do not remove it during the reboot and wait for YaST to request CD 2.. Otherwise the installation of packages from CD 2-5 will fail afterwards.
* The partitioner is broken in some cases (Bug 151947). which might result in:
o mixed up filesystem types - for example one chooses ext2 and the partition is getting formatted with reiserfs
o creates double or totally obscure entries within the fstab of the system
o makes inproper proposals for a standa

Get it via FTP and bitorrent., or directly under the directories on the mirrors, inside Mandrakelinux/devel/10.2/i586, to have a full access to the 10400 packages. ISO images have a subset of 1857 packages. Check the wiki for the schedule of the next beta release.Right now 2100 bugs have been reported since the beginning of the development period of 10.2, and 2017 have been resolved (1250 fixed, 200 invalids, 200 duplicates and 200 old). During the same period last year, for the 10.0, there were 2200 reported bugs at the end of February, but only 1600 resolved. This is better this year! There is fewer bugs and more are resolved! Moreover, as shown in this history table, we have now 2000 pack

SUSE Linux 9.2 is now available for download as full DVD image or mini installation image for FTP installs
You have the choice:
1) If you have a DVD burner, you can download the file SUSE-Linux-9.2-FTP-DVD.iso (the file's exact size is 3363543040 Bytes!) and burn it on a DVD to boot and install from it, just like you would do with a DVD from a SUSE Linux 9.2 box edition.
2) If you have a CDR/RW burner, you may want to download the file SUSE-Linux-9.2-mini-installation.iso (size: exactly 67336192 bytes), burn it on a CD and boot from it to start the installation of the SUSE Linux 9.2 FTP version. The advantage over option 1) is clear: You only download the packages that you nee
