Thanks to MSFN for the heads up!The Release Candidate of Windows Messenger 5.0 has just been released. Three different language versions are already available, including English, Japanese and German. The downloads are all around 8.3 MB. There is no word on changes, fixes or improvements. Download

A new and improved version of Microsoft's popular instant messaging client has been released today. It seems the official release marked for a weeks time has either been put forward to now or this build has been released by mistake.MSN 9 is due to start beta testing in as little as a months time. And it's rumoured
MSN 9 will contain MSN Messenger 6.1 which could have functions locked only to
MSN 9 subscribers with the new premium and plus services being created.
This version is still compatible with Messenger Plus! and an ad-patcher will
follow for those who don't use Messenger Plus!.
Either way it's a new build and will likely be close to or the build that is

As promised, we have a copy of Windows Messenger 5 Beta 2 for you to download! Betaplace has incorrectly tagged this download as Build 0250 when in fact its
Build 0230 according to the About Window. The filesize also weighs at a hefty
8.21 MB (What on earth are MS adding to it?!). BetaPlace also informs that theyve
addressed a number of issues, along with some changes in features.
Keep in mind this is a version of Messenger only for Windows XP, with the added
features of corporate IM functionality such as the SIP Communications and Exchange
Messaging services which is not present in MSN Messenger. But... it doesnt contain

According to a post by a Microsoft employee this week on the Windows Messenger 5 newsgroups Windows Messenger 5 Beta 2 is due to be released this week by the team.Maybe more we'll see some big changes but I'd very much doubt it, it seems at
the moment that Windows Messenger is clearly a corporate version of the two Instant
Messaging applications or what some would call a "slim lined" version
out of the two, for those who want complete Windows XP compatability without the
frilly bits of MSN Messenger 6.
Whatever happens more details are likely to come near the end of this week.
