New worms spreading through MSN Messenger -- and its bundled-with-Windows Windows Messenger version -- via links to a malicious site are infecting users and leaving their PCs open to hacker hijack, security vendors reported Monday.
The new worms, tagged as Kelvir.a and Kelvir.b, appeared over the weekend and on Monday, respectively, anti-virus vendors said. Both use the same mechanism to attract users and infect Windows-based PCs: they include a link in the instant message. That link, in turn, downloads a malicious file -- the actual worm, a variant of the long-running Spybot -- which opens a backdoor to the compromised machine.

Microsoft's MSN division just released Build 632 of MSN Messenger to beta testers.

Although this is not a big jump from last month's build 604 suprisingly there are still a number of outstanding issues. One such example is the inability to send winks from build 632 to any other build other than 632. Testers in the beta program confirm that the new build appears to be more stable than the previous build 604.
* Winks can only be sent from build 7.0.632 to build 7.0.632. The leaked build (7.0.604) and the public beta (7.0.425) cannot receive winks from the latest Beta build. This will be fixed in the refresh.

Build 604 contains quite a number of changes from the previous beta build (build 425) including slightly modified icons and a grey text message next to each contact icon's name actually explaining their current status (Online, Away, Offline etc).

Enabling the personal message to tell contacts what you are listening to currently (tick the option) will change your personal message to reflect the current mp3 you are listening to. Interestingly, when tested with a music video file in the current playlist the personal message is blanked out while the video file is being played.
