News Thursday's leak of the Windows 2000 source code originated not from Microsoft, but from long-time Redmond partner Mainsoft.



The leaked code includes 30,915 files and was apparently removed from a Linux computer used by Mainsoft for development purposes. Dated July 25, 2000, the source code represents Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
Analysis indicates files within the leaked archive are only a subset of the Windows source code, which was licensed to Mainsoft for use in the company's MainWin product. News Acronis, the 2nd largest maker of disk imaging software following Symantec's purchase of PowerQuest, is preparing a new release of its Partition Expert utility.



Partition Expert is the last member of the Acronis product line scheduled to receive a refresh following the launch of Acronis True Image Server, Acronis True Image 7.0 and Acronis Privacy Expert Suite. External testers are needed to rake Partition Expert through the coals prior to its release.

News Following the recent news of the compagny behind Gator suing everyone that called their product spyware(latest PC Pitstop), they have decided to change the name of Gator entirely. The name is now Claria, so be on the lookout for this piece of nasty software.
This is probably a step to mask the software further as Gator was becoming a rather well known advertisement product, and a increasing amount of people were taking steps against it.

News A WORLDWIDE ALERT was issued today about an RPC worm which is likely to cause large scale infections on Windows 2000 and XP systems.
It doesn't spread by email, but looks for Internet ports that haven't been patched by the latest Microsoft patches.
