A BUG IN INTERNET EXPLORER will send data to MSN and Alexa, a firm claimed earlier this month.
The bug, identified by Secunia, claims that a so-called known featuer in IE, will continue to trasmit data to both msn.com and alexa.com, even after the "Show Related Links" option is switched off.
Secunia claims the bug means that a URL, which could include user names, passwords or whatever happens to be in the Window pane, is sent in plain text to msn.com and alexa.com.
It applies to both IE 6 on W2K and Windows XP with all service packs and hot fixes, claims Secunia, which describes the condition as "moderately critical".
The solution is to filter traffic so M

Energis, Tiscali and Your Communications make new complaint over DataStream pricing
Three leading telecoms companies are using the 1998 Competitions Act to launch a new offensive against BT's DataStream pricing policy. Energis, supported by Tiscali and Your Communications, has complained to telecoms watchdog Oftel that BT is abusing its dominant position in the market, contrary to chapter II of the Competitions Act.
It alleges that BT consistently uses multiple tactics to undermine the viability of DataStream as opposed to IPStream, and that this amounts to "anti-competitive" behaviour.
DataStream is the delivery method that all

Graduate students from Carnegie Mellon University, in the US, proposed two methods aimed at greatly reducing the effects of Internet attacks.
In two papers presented at the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy here, the graduate students suggested simple modifications to network software that could defeat denial-of-service attacks and that could be implemented in the current protocol used by the Internet. The symposium, sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, began Sunday and lasts through Wednesday.
Steven Bellovin, a research fellow in network security at AT&T Labs, said both proposals are credib

Olcay has been reverse engineering again:
"I sat down there, thinking about Media Center Edition... Damn bad it doesn't run
on Windows XP Home - 90 percent of all OEM computers are bundled with WinXP Home!
A few thoughts later i switched on my PC and began analysing some files, how they're
working, how configuration is done and finally how to make MCE run on XP Home."

Futurmark post : FYI, we just decided to disable (at least for the time being) all current submitted results using the questionable drivers, Detonator 42.67, 42.68 and 42.69. This means that the current results are not deleted, but disbaled from being published. We encourage you to use only officially released, and/or WHQL'ed drivers, as results run with the above-mentioned driver versions will be disabled.
The reason for this is that the drivers have been officially stated as optimized for 3DMark03, and we can not verify the purity and integrity of the drivers. We are investigating the drivers and their effect on 3DMark03 - both performance and the rendering quality (ie. image quality).

As has been the case for the past 4 years, we like to offer you a short report of the news gathered at Cebit (Hannover, Germany). This year has yielded quite a bit of information. Of course we did sign a few NDAs and some roadmaps are still very blurry, one example being AMDs, but nevertheless we found many interesting details. Some of the highlights of this article are details about the first dual Opteron motherboards, Opteron server racks and some new Prescott details...

ISONews seems to have been taken over by the US goverment. Altough the site seems still to be working for some at this time, others are redirected to a website of American deparment of Justice. ISONews is a website dedicated to publish information files that are distributed with pirated software.
However it seems that the Department of Justice could not shut down the site because of the posted info files, but found a way to legally take it over, because on the site mod chips, that enable Playstation (2) devices to play backupped games, were sold. Users are redirected to this website.

Beyond3D Well, we've had a release of a new DirectX API late last year, with the introduction of DirectX9, and we've had DirectX9 capable hardware much before that in the form of the Radeon 9500/9700 and the upcoming GeForce FX series, isn't it about time we saw a new version of everyone's favourite 3D benchmark? Well, as if on cue, Futuremark Corporation (formerly MadOnion) have released 3DMark2003 and Beyond3D has been given the opportunity to test the software early.

Doom9 post: After 3 days of work it's finally been done. I've completely rewritten the Full DVD Backup guide. It now uses all the latest tools (DIF4U, etc) explains every step in the backup of the chosen movie including transcoding every extra, forced subs, etc. And while I was messing with Scenarist again I've written a small tips & tricks article.View : Detail
