Windows 2003 Less than two months after launching its Windows Server 2003 operating system, Microsoft has released a security patch to fix a vulnerability that could let malicious sites run damaging code on the server. Although security experts--even those at Microsoft itself--had pointed to the company's latest server OS as the first test of the software giant's massive Trustworthy Computing initiative, representatives maintained that the patch did not mean the release had been a failure in its security practices.

"It actually highlights positive progress in Trustworthy Computing," said Microsoft's U.K. security chief, Stuart Okin, explaining that Server 2003 is significantly hardened in com ... more

Windows 2003 Thanks sweetpete for this submission. He noted that while testing Windows Server 2003 Enterprise using the readily available Volume License Keys (VLK) and media (for educational reasons alone we suspect) he ran into the following friendly message at Windows Update:
It looks like they learned a lot from the VLK leak of Windows XP in August 2001, it took them well over a year to disable use of Windows Update for people using the key supplied with Devilsown Windows XP. This time they have blocked it before its official shipping date.

VLK has been the more popular choice for warez since Microsoft introduced Activation on its products, one of the first products to be blocked from upd ... more

Windows 2003 Browse to C:WindowsSystem32dllcache

Rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.bak (this is your backup file)

Browse up to System32, rename uxtheme.dll > uxtheme.bak
Copy the patched uxtheme.dll to C:WindowsSystem32 RebootThis patch is as the previous one for Windows XP, totally unsupported by Microsoft and at your own risk. Be smart and save an original backup file incase something goes wrong. C:Windows can obviously be ommited for your installed drive letter and installation Download: Uxtheme.dll patch for Windows Server 2003 ... more

Windows 2003 The purpose of creating this guide is to make it short, simple, and to the point! There is "another guide" on the Internet, but it's flawed in many ways and out of date, which is corrected in this Workstation guide. It provides extra information regarding the ability to enable Auto-Logon on Windows Server 2003, the installation of Java, a much improved working UXTheme installation for the final build, and many other various pieces that should give the user a smooth ride to configuring his/her server to act as a Workstation. You can find this guide using the link below...

Windows 2003 Late on friday night Microsoft unveiled a set of intructions to enable and install Plus! for Windows XP on Windows Server 2003. An unusual step by Microsoft as this product is designed to be run as a server and not for applications that only affect consumers. However a welcome addition for some I guess.

An interesting snip from the article:

Note: DirectX and Direct3D are required for many of the Plus! for Windows XP components to work properly. DirectX and Direct3D are not activated by default in the Windows Server 2003 family. View : microsoft article Q311410 ... more

Windows 2003 Microsoft Corp. this Friday announced it has released Windows Server 2003 to manufacturing alongwith Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Version 2003 for Intel Itanium 2 processor. Even before the release of Windows Server 2003, people were curious and asking whether Microsoft is interested in releasing a Server 2003 version for AMD-64 or not.

Well ... here we have found some evidence which shows that they do plan to support AMD64 when it comes out. Though a bit late for them. But considering AMDs slow release, its not yet too late.
This page contains Debugging Tools for Windows Native AMD64 Beta. This package will only install on an AMD64 platform so do not try installing on other machines. No ... more
